It seemed like any other choir song…until the profound words revealed themselves

The “Duett Buffo di Due Gatti,” or “humorous duet for two cats,” is a renowned classical composition often featured as a concert encore. It’s particularly intriguing because its lyrics consist entirely of the word “miau” (meow).

Originating from a popular Italian comic opera of the same title, composed in 1825 by Gioachino Rossini, the piece unfolds a light-hearted and amusing tale of two cats, Pepel and Silvestro, vying for the affection of a female cat named Ninetta. In their duet, filled with clever and comical lyrics, the feline rivals attempt to outshine each other. However, Ninetta ultimately rejects both suitors, opting instead for a wealthy old tomcat. The opera concludes with Pepel and Silvestro reconciling and departing together into the night.

The performers showcased in the video were part of the ensemble Les Petit Chanteurs A La Croix De Bois (Little Singers Of Paris), with Hyacinthe de Moulins and Regis Mengus as the primary vocalists.
