As flames blaze throughout Los Angeles, Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest’s families have stepped forward to help.
The actress, who was in New York City on Jan. 7 and Jan. 8 while numerous wildfires erupted in California, said on Instagram Thursday, Jan. 9, that she, her husband Guest, 78, and their children Annie and Ruby will give $1 million to help victims of the natural disaster.
“My husband and I, along with our children, have pledged $1 million from our family foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state, as well as the great people who live and love there,” Curtis wrote on Twitter.
The Oscar winner, 66, said earlier on Jan. 9 that her house is secure as she travels to Los Angeles after appearing on The Tonight Show Wednesday.
“I’m in communication with Governor [Gavin] Newsom and Mayor [Karen] Bass and Senator [Adam] Schiff as to where those funds need to be directed for the most impact,” Curtis told reporters.

Curtis got tearful on The Tonight Show as she discussed the changing circumstances in Los Angeles while promoting her new film, The Last Showgirl, for which she received a SAG Award nomination.
“I flew here last night,” she stated during her chat with Jimmy Fallon. “I was on the plane when I started receiving texts, and it’s really annoying, you guys,” she said.
“It’s just a catastrophe in Southern California,” she told reporters. “Obviously there have been horrific fires in many places [but] this is literally where I live.”
Several celebrities, including Billy Crystal, Anna Faris, Leighton Meester and Adam Brody, Ricki Lake, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, Melissa Rivers, and Paris Hilton, have lost their houses in the fires.
We rescheduled the 2025 Critics Choice Awards, hosted in Santa Monica, Calif., for Jan. 26 instead of Jan. 12. The cancellation of other movie premieres has also occurred in recent days.
