Jamie Lee Curtis explains why she gave her Oscar statuette they/them pronouns…

No one can drag Jamie Lee Curtis down from the euphoria she’s feeling in the aftermath of the Oscars.

Earlier this month, the Everything, Everything, Everywhere actor went on the Today show to discuss her huge accomplishment and what it’s been like to be the joyful new owner of a prestigious Academy Award, including how she wants to refer to her statue.

“The longing for attention and appreciation for your work is universal,” he remarked. “You hope that whoever you work for appreciates you.” And this is a very gorgeous, gleaming token of gratitude.”

The 64-year-old actress won her first Academy Award for her performance in Everything, Everywhere at Once.

“My mother and my father were both nominated for Oscars in different categories,” he remarked. “I just won an Oscar!”

She thanked her family and those who have supported her “genre movies” since she began her career in 1977 in an emotional victory speech.

Curtis appeared digitally on the Today program on March 14, telling Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb that she is still in shock.

“I never thought in a million years that I would have these couple days, and I’m very moved by the whole thing.”

Curtis expressed the wonderful reason why she opted not to name the figurine when asked whether she had thought of a name for it.

Curtis would refer to her Oscar statuette as they/them in honor of her 26-year-old daughter Ruby, who was discovered to be transgender in 2021.

“In support of my daughter Ruby, I’m having them be a they,” the actor was quoted as saying. “I’m just going to call them ‘them’, they/them, and they are doing great.”

“They’re settling in.”

Heartbreaking admission

Jamie Lee has stated that having a child who is transgender is a steep learning curve.

“It’s speaking in a new language,” she explained. “It’s learning new vocabulary and terminology.” I’m new to it. I’m not going to pretend to know a lot about it. and I’m going to squander it.

“I’m going to make errors.” “I’d like to try to avoid making major mistakes,” she added.

“You still mess up, and I’ve messed up twice today.” “We’re only human.” But if just one person reads this, sees a photo of Ruby and me, and thinks, ‘I feel free to say this is who I am,’ it will be worth it.”

Despite hailing from a Hollywood family, Ruby has stayed out of the spotlight her whole life and now works as a video editor for a YouTube gaming star.

“I was aware Ruby had a boyfriend. Ruby had used the term bi, and I knew it. However, gender identity and sexual orientation are distinct concepts, according to the two-time Golden Globe winner.
