Jennifer Aniston opens up about how she got her iconic role on ‘Friends’

Despite her various appearances in shows such as The Morning Show and Horrible Bosses, Jennifer Aniston will always be known to Friends fans as Rachel Green. In a new interview, Aniston reveals how she earned the career-changing part of Rachel Green in Friends, which she performed for the show’s entire 10-season run.

The Cake actor was questioned about “the one phone call that changed your life?” in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. Aniston’s response: “Probably getting friends.” “I had auditioned the day before,” the performer added, recalling how she was cast in the series. I really wanted it, and when I stepped into the audition, there were so many females. I recall thinking to myself, ‘Oh boy.’ I simply gave it my all and returned home. I believe it was that day; by 2 p.m. that same day, I had gotten the position.”

During the interview, Aniston stated that she wished she had learned not to “give a s*** about what people think” when she was younger. “Because people like to think a lot of different things about me,” the actor explained.

Aniston played Rachel Green on Friends for 10 seasons, from 1994 to 2004, with Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Matthew Perry (Chander Bing), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), David Schwimmer (Ross Geller), and Matt Le Blanc (Joey Tribbiani).

Although the sitcom has been off the air for nearly two decades, Aniston appears to have a lot of affection for her career-defining role of Rachel Green, and she revealed to The Wall Street Journal that she still owns and wears a costume piece from her Friends wardrobe.
