Jennifer Grey felt ‘invisible’ after having facial surgery, as her ‘nose job from hell’ had made her ‘anonymous’

It was expected that Jennifer Grey, who portrayed “Baby” in the beloved movie Dirty Dancing, would have a significant boost in her professional prospects.

Still, it wasn’t intended to be. Rather, a dreadful incident profoundly changed everything, leading her to permanently abandon the film industry.

Jennifer Grey has now opened up about the terrible period of her life that left her severely damaged after many years of silence.

The movie is a low-budget production with an unidentified director and an unknown cast.

But the cast and crew of Dirty Dancing recognized what they had done as soon as the film premiered in theaters in August 1987.

The male lead, Patrick Swayze, was successful right away. He became well-known as a teen idol and sex icon, and he later starred in successful films like Ghost and Donnie Darko.

However, Jennifer Grey, his co-star, wasn’t in a good place when the movie came out, and she quickly disappeared completely. As abruptly as she had appeared, Jennifer Grey disappeared in the middle of the chaos and celebrations.

Additionally, the actress did not make an appearance in the media for an extremely long time.

But in an interview with People Magazine, she has now talked candidly about the incident that changed her life.

However, let’s take a closer look at Jennifer Grey’s life prior to the tragic event that occurred in the summer of 1987.

Jennifer Gray started attending dance classes at a young age. Her father may have urged her to seek a career in entertainment when she was born in New York in 1960. Her father, Joel Gray, was an actor, director, photographer, dancer, and vocalist.

Jennifer attended Dalton School and focused on dance and drama. In 1978, after receiving her degree, she enrolled in the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theater and began looking for acting roles. Her life wasn’t a floral bed or a happy dance. Jennifer had to work as a waitress to make ends meet.

Despite this, she managed to obtain a few TV commercial jobs, one of which was for Dr. Pepper. She debuted as an actress in the 1984 movie “Reckless.” She starred as Frances “Baby” Houseman in the film “Dirty Dancing,” which gave her a big break a few years later.

Author Eleanor Bergstein’s early years served as inspiration for the plot of this well-loved film. Jennifer became well-known over night and received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress.

Unfortunately, she was never able to benefit from the enormous success.

Shortly before the film’s August 1987 release, Grey and her then-boyfriend Matthew Broderick were residing in Ireland.

However, Broderick was driving on the incorrect side of the road when he impacted another car, which led to the couple’s sad car accident. A woman and her daughter were in the other car; they both passed away right away.

Later, authorities charged Broderick with careless driving rather than dangerous driving. Jennifer Grey only had minor physical injuries, such as bruises, but her psychological scars remained.

The premiere of Dirty Dancing took place just a few days later. But even with its widespread appeal, Grey could not get into the film.

Comparing such intense suffering with the survivor’s guilt and then receiving praise as the next big thing was incomprehensible. Grey reportedly told the Daily Mirror that being the talk of the town didn’t feel good.

The disaster’s trauma will never fully heal the actress.

“My head was never the same, and my ambition was never the same,” she said in an interview with People.

Hell’s nose job

She struggled with survivor’s guilt, disappeared for a while in the early 1990s, and then showed up in a Friends episode in 1995.

By then, she had had plastic surgery, and her face had changed dramatically.

“I entered the operating room as a celebrity and emerged anonymous,” she asserted in 2012.

It appeared imperceptible, as if it were part of a witness protection scheme. I’ve never witnessed a nose job as terrible as this one. I will always be the once-famous actress with a nose job—the one no one knows.

Jennifer’s Hollywood career was sporadic after that.

By 2010, Jennifer had successfully re-entered the mainstream media. Following her triumph on the television series “Dancing with the Stars,” fans once again regarded her as a passionate favorite. That was something important to her, she declared.

I feel like I’ve starved myself out of fear of what people will think of me. The celebrity told People that this is like finally savoring a succulent steak after 23 years of dieting.

Grey made yet another move toward the spotlight she had left behind in 2018. She has scheduled appearances in the upcoming comedy Red Oaks and the film Untogether.

Jennifer, we’re so glad you’re back to being passionate and joyful!
