Jennifer Lopez is ready to make another film for Netflix.
On Thursday, April 17, PEOPLE reported that Lopez, 55, would appear in a cinematic version of Liv Constantine’s 2017 novel The Last Mrs. Parrish, directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis.
The Last Mrs. Parrish became famous as a selection for Reese Witherspoon’s book club in December 2017. The novel has subsequently sold over one million copies and been published in more than 34 countries. According to a Bookshop.org description, the story follows Amber Patterson, a lady from Connecticut, who takes advantage of an affluent couple in her town, Daphne and Jackson, and inserts herself into their life.
“Amber uses Daphne’s compassion and caring to insinuate herself into the family’s life — the first step in a meticulous scheme to undermine her,” according to the description. ” Before long, Amber is Daphne’s closest confidante, going to Europe with the Parrishes and their adorable young girls while becoming closer to Jackson. However, Amber’s carefully crafted strategy may crumble if a skeleton from her past reveals itself, potentially undermining all she has fought for.
Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina will produce the project under Lopez’s production business, Nuyorican Productions. Variety reported that Netflix was developing the film in September 2021, with Molly Sims and Liza Chasin also mentioned as producers.
Lopez is already working on a forthcoming Netflix romantic comedy called Office Romance, which stars her with Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso), who also co-wrote the script. Lopez revealed her casting in the film on Instagram in September, when she shared a Deadline piece about it on her Instagram Stories with the caption, “This will be fun!!!”
Andrea Berloff and John Gatins, both Academy Award nominees for their work on the films Straight Outta Compton and Flight, are penning the script for The Last Mrs. Parrish. The film’s release date has not yet been set. For filmmaker Zemeckis, 72, The Last Mrs. Parrish is his first movie since collaborating with Forrest Gump’s Tom Hanks and Robin Wright on Here last year.
Lopez’s most recent film appearance was in the wrestling movie Unstoppable. Her newest film, Kiss of the Spider Woman, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January and will be released in theaters on October 10 amid reports that he was fired.
