Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, opted to forego further medical treatment and instead spend time at home with his loved ones while under hospice care.

The Carter Center made the announcement after the former President spent several brief periods in the hospital. Jason Carter, one of the former president’s 22 grandchildren, has been updating the American public on his grandfather’s health.

In an interview with the press, Carter described his grandfather’s condition as “as good as it can be.”

“They’re just meeting with family right now, but they’re doing it in the best possible way: the two of them together at home,” Jason said of his grandfather and grandmother, First Lady Rosalynn Carter. Rosalynn Carter has known President Carter for over seven decades. In July, the pair will mark 77 years of marriage.

“They also understand that they are not in charge.” At this moment, their faith is really reassuring. “It’s as good as it can be in that regard,” Jason Carter stated. He mentioned that his grandfather was aware of all the love that had been sent his way in recent months as he struggled with his health.

But his faith isn’t the only thing he’s focused on. According to his grandson, the former President enjoys a bowl of his favorite ice cream flavor, peanut butter. The taste is appropriate for the president, who took over his family’s peanut plantation in the early 1950s when his father died.

He was in charge of the farm until 1977, when he was elected President of the United States. He was elected as the 39th President of the United States, defeating his opponent Gerald Ford by 2.1% of the popular vote and 297–240 in the electoral vote. He was President for one term before losing the election to Ronald Reagan in 1980.

In 1982, he founded the Carter Foundation on the premise of a basic commitment to human rights and the alleviation of human suffering.’ With the assistance of his wife and Emory University, he established the foundation. The foundation aims to ‘avoid and resolve disputes, increase freedom and democracy, and improve health.’

In recent years, the former President has dealt with a number of health issues. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and fought it valiantly. Aside from that, he has wounded himself multiple times due to falls at his house. This includes a shattered hip, a black eye, and a slight pelvic fracture.

On October 1, the former President will turn 99 years old. He is now the longest-living President in history, surpassing George H.W. Bush, who died at the age of 94 about 5 years ago.

We are praying for the former President’s health and the well-being of his family at this difficult time. Please join us in sending them our best wishes and prayers.
