Joy Reid and her show, The ReidOut, are departing MSNBC amid the current upheaval in television news.
MSNBC’s new president, Rebecca Kulter, said in a message to staff on Monday, Feb. 24, that the 56-year-old journalist would be leaving.
“Joy Reid is leaving the network, and we thank her for her countless contributions over the years,” Culter said in a statement. “Her work has been recognized with several esteemed honors, including most recently, the 2025 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding News Series.”
She also stated that rotating anchors will cover Reid’s 7 p.m. ET position in the following weeks. The Weekend’s current anchors, Symone Sanders Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez, will relocate to weekdays at 7 p.m. to lead a new ensemble news hour.

Since its beginning in 2020, The ReidOut has become a nightly regular on MSNBC, with the political pundit conducting extended interviews with politicians and other notable figures.
After allegations of the newscast’s cancelation surfaced over the weekend, Reid responded with a message published with BlueSky and Instagram shortly after midnight, before the memo.
“I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets,” according to Reid. “I’m very proud of the Reidout @joy.msnbc.com crew, who are like family, and all of our fans and friends.” See you tomorrow night at 7 p.m. one more time.”
Reid’s resignation comes just hours after longtime NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt announced his retirement from the show this summer after more than a decade.

In a note to Nightly and Dateline workers, the 65-year-old said, “A smile comes to my face when I think that with Nightly News and Dateline, I have now anchored two of the most successful and iconic television news programs in broadcast history.”
“As a 20-year-old radio reporter on the police beat following breaking news in San Francisco, I never anticipated my professional path would expand as it has.” What an amazing ride.”
Industry reshuffles on Monday affected many journalists, not just Reid and Holt.
According to The New York Post, Ayman Mohyeldin Reports, The Katie Phang Show, and The Sunday Show With Jonathan Capehart will all be canceled over the weekend.
Despite this, Mohyeldin, Phang, and Capehart will continue with the network, with the former and latter taking over hosting The Weekend’s morning and evening episodes on Saturdays and Sundays at 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
In contrast, Phang will continue to work as a legal reporter.
