On Wednesday, Kensington Palace announced that Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has undergone planned abdominal surgery at a private hospital in London, leading to her temporary absence from royal duties until after Easter. The expected duration of her recovery at the hospital is between ten and fourteen days, and the Palace has confirmed the success of the surgery.
The Princess expressed her apologies to the public for the postponement of her scheduled engagements. Fans of the Princess have flooded social media with well-wishes for her speedy recovery, acknowledging her dedication and concern for others even while unwell.

“Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery. The surgery was successful and it is expected she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter,” the statement from Kensington Palace on its social media pages.
“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private.”
The statement continued: “Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share. The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”

Upon her discharge, Kate is anticipated to continue her recovery at her home in Windsor, where she and William moved in 2022. In a supportive move, Prince William has also reduced his engagements to assist with childcare during Kate’s recovery from what is described as a “non-cancerous” surgery. The couple’s long-time nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, will be assisting William in caring for their children.
Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, known for her professionalism and dedication, has been with the family since Prince George was eight months old. Even in the absence of the couple, she is responsible for making decisions regarding the children.
Kate has previously shared her sentiments about hospitals, expressing a desire not to linger in such places. Recalling her experience with extreme morning sickness after the birth of Princess George, Kate highlighted her eagerness to return home and resume normal life.
Wishing Kate a swift and smooth recovery during this challenging time.
