Kathy Bates announced she is revamping her clothing and sharing her favorite workout after losing 100 pounds!
Bates spoke with PEOPLE exclusively while attending the 36th Colleagues Spring Luncheon on Thursday, May 8, at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. During the chat, the actress mentioned that she is working with a stylist to “elevate” her appearance.
“I’ve hired the most wonderful stylist, Deb Afshani,” Bates, 76, explains. “I met her on a Vanity Fair shoot and asked her to help me completely transform everything. I just wanted to enhance things a little. It’s been a pleasure to work with her since she has such a talented eye.”
The Matlock star also shared that her favored mode of transportation these days is basic: walking. “I think it’s the best exercise,” Bates says. “Well, it’s great for me, and I have a treadmill at home.”

“I’m supposed to do some weight training, because they say that’s really good,” she tells me. “I have one of those stretchy things.” I’m not sure what you call those. I need to find out how to utilize that. I need to put it on the DVD and find out how to utilize it. The Blu-ray, not the Blu-ray. I’m not sure what to call it. I just put it in a drawer and turn it on.
Bates has previously discussed how her weight reduction journey, which she described as progressive over several years, has radically transformed her life and made work simpler.
“When I was so heavy in Harry’s Law, I had to sit down in between every take, and it was awful,” she admitted of her 2011 drama series while chatting exclusively to PEOPLE at the PaleyFest Matlock screening on March 23. “I’m ashamed to have put myself through that, to be honest.”
“But now that I’ve been able to get really healthy, I can move, I can breathe, I can have fun, and I’m not sore,” said the actress. “I feel exhausted and realize I’m like an old lady, but the kids also get tired. But it has been a wonderful experience.”

While chatting with PEOPLE in October, the Misery actress revealed that she was encouraged to take her health seriously after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2017.
“[Diabetes] runs in my family, and I had witnessed what my father had gone through. He got his leg amputated. One of my sisters is dealing with it quite seriously, which scared me. “It scared me straight,” she explained.
Bates said that her fitness regimen “coincided beautifully” with the date of Matlock.
“Physically, I’m capable of doing this show,” she told me. “I don’t need to sit down. I can stand up all day, walk, move, breathe, and do things I couldn’t previously.”
