King Charles calls Prince William ‘dumb.’ His regret stems from Princess Diana’s quick response!

A TikTok video has gone viral, accusing King Charles III of referring to Prince William as a “bit dumb” when he was just six months old.

Charles and Princess Diana sat down with their son for a photograph with the Associated Press on December 22, 1982, when William was six months old.

Datmeid, a TikTok user, published a video purporting to depict how “Princess Diana responds to her husband’s rude comment about the baby.”

The video footage then shows Charles leaning into infant William, followed by a voice saying, “He’s a bit dumb.”

The words are presented over Charles’ head, but his face is not visible at this time; thus, a casual observer cannot discern if the monarch is speaking.

Princess Diana then looks at the camera and says, “Like all men,” while Charles glances up, grins, and appears to turn away.

With the caption “Love her for that,” the video garnered 1.1 million likes and over 14 million views.

One comment on the video said, “Who speaks that about their infant?” while another read, “Did this really happen?” Or is it an edit?”

The Associated Press videotaped and ITN televised a photo session Charles and Diana had with Prince William at Kensington Palace when he was six months old.

The TikTok video does not contain artificially manufactured or manipulated footage. However, the entire version of the video clearly shows that a member of the film crew, not Charles, made the disputed statement off camera.

The king didn’t utter the words, and Diana wasn’t responding to her husband, contrary to what the TikTok post claimed.

She did, however, remark “like all men,” which elicited chuckles from the crew member in question.

In fact, Charles appears to be joking with Diana when he grins and turns his face away, rather than reacting to a rebuke.

The TikTok tape has the logo of the Instagram account f***boyproblem.s, and a similar video has actually been posted by that page, but Newsweek was only able to uncover a version with a different on-screen caption—one that did not clearly connect the comment to Charles. Instead, it simply stated, “She didn’t let that slide.”

When Newsweek requested a response, the operator of the account stated they were unaware that it was not Charles who made the comments and deleted the video.

In audiotapes she recorded for her biographer Andrew Morton, Princess Diana expressed her frustration about having to choose a date for William’s birth that aligned with Charles’ polo calendar.

In extracts from his book Diana: Her True Story, she stated: “When we had William, we had to find a date in the diary that suited him and his polo.” She said afterwards, “We had found a date where Charles could get off his polo pony for me to give birth.”

According to Diana, after viewing the infant, Queen Elizabeth II said, “Thank goodness he doesn’t have ears like his father.”

However, despite her extensive and detailed critiques of Charles, she has never stated that the monarch dubbed his firstborn son “dumb” while William was a newborn.

The statement ascribed to King Charles was most likely uttered by a member of the film crew, and Princess Diana’s retort was apparently not directed at her husband.

Despite the difficulty in discerning the precise phrase, the popular TikTok video incorrectly credits it to the monarch.
