Kyle Gass, co-founder of Tenacious D, has spoken out following Jack Black’s decision to postpone the band’s global tour due to a joke he made regarding Donald Trump’s assassination attempt

Gass stirred controversy on Sunday (July 14) when he and Black performed as Tenacious D at Australia’s ICC Sydney Theatre as part of their world tour.

The concert occurred one day after a gunman struck Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania, leaving the former president bleeding from the ear.

Following the incident, the hospital sent Trump, who later reported hearing the bullet “tear through the flesh.”

President Joe Biden was among many who claimed they were ‘grateful to hear that [Trump was] safe and doing well’ following the incident, but Gass surprised the public with a different answer.

During the show on Sunday, Black gave Gass a cake to honor his birthday. When the School of Rock actor asked his bandmate to make a wish, Gass appeared to respond, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”

Following the outrage over his statement, Black announced the cancellation of the rest of Tenacious D’s tour.

In an Instagram post, Black expressed his astonishment at the comments made during the Sunday show. “I would never condone hate speech or incite political violence in any way.

“After considerable thought, I no longer believe it is right to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative ideas are on pause.

“I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding.”
Gass has now responded to his statements in his own statement, saying: “The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous, and a terrible mistake.”

“I don’t condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone,” he said on Instagram.

“What occurred was a catastrophe, and I’m very sorry for my lack of discernment. I really apologize to everyone I’ve let down and sincerely regret any sorrow I’ve caused.”

Tenacious D plans to provide information to fans who purchased tickets to their upcoming gigs, and they will issue refunds at a later date.

Trump complimented ‘the United States Secret Service and all of Law Enforcement’ for their prompt response to the attack in Butler, Pennsylvania.

In a statement, the US Secret Service claimed to have “neutralized the gunman,” later identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks.
