Leah Remini and her husband Angelo Pagán settle their divorce over two months after the split announcement

Leah Remini and Angelo Pagán have officially split.

According to records acquired by PEOPLE, the couple finalized their uncontested divorce on Oct. 11 after reaching an agreement in mediation outside of court. The court received a signed written agreement from the judge, which kept the stipulation secret.

Remini and Pagán separated on August 1, 2024, and filed for divorce later that month. On August 29, they announced their split in a long joint Instagram post.

“Okay, here we are.” After 28 years together and 21 years of marriage, we have decided to file for divorce,” they wrote. “This choice occurred after much thinking and consideration, and as difficult as divorce is, we are approaching it with a positive attitude because we know it is best for us. We’re pleased with how we worked through this together.”

“Yes, we’re sad, and we’ve got some figuring out to do as we continue to move forward into our new normal—together still in many ways and apart in some new ones,” according to the statement. But here’s the thing: we’ve been wonderful friends for years. We continue to celebrate holidays together, watch our favorite TV shows, and congregate as a family.”

In response to “the big question” of why they were breaking up, the couple said they had “both changed” and were no longer compatible.

“After a lot of effort and consideration, we’ve decided to take this step, which reflects who we are today,” they told me. “Our link is still strong; it has simply developed into something new. We believe that a marriage that endures this long and yields so many wonderful experiences, especially raising our great daughter, deserves celebration.

“In our opinion, this marriage was a big success. And now, we’re looking forward to creating even more memorable moments—just in a new way,” they said.

After making their marriage public on several television appearances over the years, the couple expressed a desire to be “transparent” about their plans.

“We are sharing this unknown territory with you all as we take our first steps into this next stage of our lives publicly,” the caption said. “We would love for everyone to have more access to different kinds of relationship stories and not feel so isolated in navigating the changes that millions of couples make every year. We hope our journey can inspire others to see that relationships—whether they change or end—aren’t failures.”

“We’ll keep sharing snippets of our lives as we navigate this new chapter,” they concluded. “Love, Leah & Angelo.”

Remini and Pagán also have a 20-year-old daughter named Sofia, while Pagán has three children from a previous relationship: Angelo Jr., Alex, and Nico. The two met in 1996 while Pagán was playing at the Cuban bar and restaurant El Floridita in Los Angeles. They married seven years later, in 2003.
