Legendary director David Lynch passed away at the age of 78

Director David Lynch died at the age of 78, according to a social media statement by his family.

The filmmaker was well known for his films, Blue Velvet and Mulholland Drive, as well as the highly acclaimed Twin Peaks television series.

In a Facebook statement, his family wrote: “It is with profound sadness that we, his family, announce the death of the man and artist, David Lynch. We’d prefer some privacy at this time.

“There is a huge void in the world now that he is no longer among us. However, he would advise us to focus on the positive aspects rather than the negative ones.

However, as he would advise, focus on the donut rather than the hole.

“It’s a beautiful day with golden sunshine and blue skies all the way.”
The director’s latest feature film was Inland Empire in 2006, after which he directed a series of music videos.

In 2024, the filmmaker revealed his emphysema diagnosis, and during a candid interview in August, he admitted that his health issues limited his ability to work.

He stated that the lung ailment caused shortness of breath by damaging the air sacs in the lungs.

The disorder is mostly caused by prolonged exposure to airborne irritants such as tobacco or marijuana smoke, air pollution, or chemical fumes and dust.

Lynch explained that smoking for so long caused his condition, saying, “Smoking was something that I absolutely loved, but in the end, it bit me.”

“It was part of the art life for me: the tobacco and the smell of it, and lighting things and smoking and going back and sitting back and having a smoke and looking at your work, or thinking about things; nothing like it in this world is so beautiful,” said Lynch.
