During a frank interview with Vanity Fair, Lizzo flatly denied making songs for a “white audience.” Instead, the 34-year-old musician writes music about her black experience. You may hear hip-hop, gospel, and R&B in Lizzo’s songs, which are a combination of genres. She has also had hit singles such as Good as Hell and About Damn Time, which have soared to the top of the pop charts.
Lizzo is concerned about the chart-topping songs since they were written for a black audience but have become so successful with whites. That “disturbs her the most.”
“This is probably the biggest criticism I’ve received, and it is such a critical conversation when it comes to black artists,” the artist added. “When black people see a large number of white people in the audience, they think to themselves, ‘Well, this isn’t for me.'” This is only for them.’ When a black musician achieves a certain degree of success, the audience will be mostly white.”
“I’m not making music for white people,” the astute singer and businesswoman remarked. I am a lady of color. “I’m making music based on my black experience.”
Melissa Jefferson is the birth name of Lizzo. She asserts that she makes music “for me to heal myself from the experience we call life.”

The Detroit singer is well aware that she is making a significant difference in the lives of young black people. She wishes for greater love and self-love, stating, “We need self-love and self-love anthems more than anybody.”
She went on to say, “So am I making music for that girl right there who looks like me, who grew up in a city where she was underappreciated and picked on and made to feel unbeautiful?'” she said before replying, “Yes.”
Lizzo also had some harsh comments for those who were attempting to portray her as a racist.
“It blows my mind when people say I’m not making music from a black perspective—how could I not do that as a black artist?”
Meanwhile, Kanye West, 45, discussed Lizzo’s weight with Tucker Carlson on Fox News. “When Lizzo loses 10 pounds and announces it, the bots—that’s a term for like telemarketer callers on Instagram—attack her for losing weight because the media wants to spread the message that being overweight is the new goal when it’s actually unhealthy,” West explained.
“Forget about whether it’s fashion or vogue, which it isn’t. To each his own, if someone finds her appealing. It is clinically sick, and for individuals to advocate for it, it is demonic.”
Carlson pressed West to explain why he believed this was being done to people of color. West was prepared with a response.
“‘It is a genocide against the black race.” They are determined to murder us in whatever way they can.”
During a concert at Scotiabank Arena, Lizzo addressed West and Tucker’s charges, saying, “I feel like everybody in America got my mother******* name in [their] mother******* mouth for no mother******* reason.”
