Who doesn’t like to find a significant quantity of money? While most of us will never realize this ambition, one lucky man found $7 million in a storage unit he bought for a few hundred dollars.
Here’s all you need to know about this lucky man and his tale.
Many individuals buy abandoned storage spaces.
When someone hires a storage unit but does not pay, the storage firm may auction off the units to recoup part of the lost revenue.
Perhaps you’ve seen this happen on Storage Wars, which depicts committed storage unit purchasers hoping to discover rare or pricey discoveries within.
Most people end up purchasing a storage unit that isn’t too expensive.
In the episode, they display additional interesting items inside storage facilities. It is rare to find a storage unit containing valuable items in real life. Even in the television series, most people aren’t fortunate enough to discover millions of dollars in the storage unit.
However, one man discovered a fantasy come true within.
Dan Dotson, the auctioneer for Storage Wars, sold a storage unit to an unknown individual. Inside the unit there were safes. According to Dotson, most safes within units are empty. Well, not this time!
The man only paid $498 for the storage facility, but the safe contained more than $7 million.
The guy and his wife hired professionals to access the safe.
As they searched the storage facility, they discovered a locked safe. They had to engage professionals to break it apart and discover what was within. They found around $7.5 million in cash.
While discovering any money in the safe would have been thrilling, it’s difficult to envision finding so much cash. It’s even more difficult to understand why someone would put that much money in a storage facility and keep it there without paying rent.
The original owners wanted their money back.
Dotson stated that after the couple purchased the storage facility, they received an unusual phone call from an attorney. The attorney represented the storage unit’s original owners and assisted them in obtaining a refund.
The cash owners offered the pair $600,000 to return the balance of the money. They then upped their offer to $1.2 million.
The couple returned the majority of the money, but they still earned bank interest.
In a video, Dotson went over the specifics of this remarkable story. He added that the couple who discovered the vault returned the majority of the money in exchange for $1.2 million.
So, for a mere $500, they became billionaires! That’s still a lot of money.
Though they didn’t get all the money, it’s hard to complain.
While $7.5 million is still significantly more than $1.2 million, they were extraordinarily fortunate. The process of hiring a lawyer to keep the money would have taken time. Perhaps the court would not have allowed them to keep any of the money at all.
So accepting the offer appears to be a decent decision.
Would you have sought to keep all of the money?
As Dotson stated in his video, “The question is, would you give it back, keep it, run for the hills, or look over your shoulder?” “What would you do?”
