Man reunites with class ring he lost in the ocean 47 years ago. ‘This story just cannot get any better…’

A diver recently reunited a guy with his college ring, which he had lost in the water 47 years ago!

While on vacation with his family in Barbados in 1977, Morgan Perigo lost his 1965 graduation ring from McMaster University in Canada, according to CNN.

When a large wave threatened to remove Perigo from his son, he clung on tightly to the boy but not to his ring, which fell into the ocean.

Fast forward to nearly four decades, and Perigo thanks diver Alex Davis for discovering the actual hidden treasure.

Davis told CNN that he was using a metal detector to scour the ocean floor after Hurricane Beryl, which passed across the island last summer, piqued his interest in locating missing goods.

“So areas where it was like a beautiful sandy beach, suddenly you can see all these rocks exposed,” Davis shared with the media. “With that sort of in mind, I was like, “Right, are there some areas now that I want to go to where it seems like a lot of sand has been pulled out?”

He stated he was looking in an area with coins from the 1970s and 1980s when his metal detector began to beep in a tone that indicated he had found gold.

Under layers of dead coral, sand, and rock, the diver discovered a ring with an almost unblemished dark-red stone.

With the words “McMaster University 1965” and the initials “FMP” engraved on it, Davis swiftly embarked on another quest: finding the owner.

A simple query to the Hamilton, Ontario, university sparked a deeper search.

Laura Escalante, the school’s alumni officer, was able to link a person with the initials, according to a school press release.

Davis received a satisfactory answer as a result of all these factors.

The freediver then phoned Perigo, who informed him that he had misplaced the ring and that his birthday was approaching.

“It was like, ‘Oh my god, this story just can’t get any better,'” Davis told the news organization. “Not only did we find it after 47 years at the bottom of the sea, but also, I found it, you know, a week before his birthday.”

Davis sent the ring to Perigo, who received the gift just in time for his big day.

“What a wonderful unexpected 83rd birthday present,” Perigo stated, according to his alma mater.
