Man reveals simple method to get inside and start a car when the key fob dies—many people were unaware it could be this easy

Certain barriers in daily chores might feel like genuine nightmares if you don’t know how to get past them. People who own automobiles with push-button start with a battery-operated key fob understand how frustrating it can be when their key fob dies unexpectedly, especially when they are in a hurry. However, a guy on TikTok has an easy solution for getting inside and starting his automobile if the battery on his key fob fails. Ceith Griffith, known on the site as @ceithgriffith, posted about his finding.

“If you have a vehicle that has a push button start and your key fob dies, then you can’t get inside because the battery’s dead in your key fob,” the guy said. “I am going to share how to get inside your vehicle and also how to start your vehicle with a dead key fob.” Griffith illustrated how most key fobs include a button along their edges that must be pushed if the key fob dies. “It will pop a key out of the key fob,” he added. “On GMCs, it looks like this, and the key comes right out like this,” he showed us. The man explained how every car will have it. “A Ford, a Mercedes—it doesn’t matter what kind of vehicle you have.”

“On the driver’s side door, there will be a little hole underneath the handle,” Griffit explained as he demonstrated the exact place where the key would go. “You just slide the key up in there, and it would pop this out,” he added, referring to a section of the handle. Once the section is removed, a person can see where their key goes to unlock the car’s door. “In your inner console, there would always be a little pouch where you slide your key fob into, and this will allow you to start your vehicle even with the dead battery.” The individual hoped that others would find the hack useful.

The video has over 2.3 million views and 90,000 likes. People rushed to the video’s comments section to express their appreciation for the trick as well as to share their knowledge of various automobile brands and their keys. @joeymatthews.32 posted on Twitter: “In my Nissan Altima, the key fob slides into the left driver’s side dash in front of your left knee, in case anyone needs to know.” @nicoleangela59 wrote, “Not for Nissan. The key pulls out and may be placed directly in the handle. Then you must hold the fob up to the button to begin.”

@pitbull.labmom said, “I’m not going to double-check every single step, but yeah, yes, yes. Thank you for providing such excellent information on my automobile.” @saturnsunride posted: “Or find out what kind of watch battery your key fob uses and keep that in the center console of your car, and when your key fob goes out, change the battery.” @dee54841 told me, “Push the button to start your vehicle with the key fob instead of your finger, and it will start when the fob is dead.” @jgts said, “Wow! I had no idea.” @christinelafemina8 commented, “This was a great video for us.”
