House fires have always been one of my worst worries. Although I’ve never had one, I always check the stove, candles, and dryer vent for possible fire threats. However, I just saw a Facebook post by Kentucky resident Jason Whitaker that showed a fire danger I had never considered previously.
Jason had the unpleasant experience of regularly smelling something resembling an electrical fire in his house. He was so anxious that he practically tore apart his house in an attempt to find the source of the scent. After thoroughly examining, he determined that the stink was emanating from an unexpected source: a fluorescent spiral light bulb. To his surprise, he discovered that ladybugs had collected inside the bulb’s spiral coils, lured by light and warmth, to the point where they nearly exploded.
“Inside the spiral coils of the light bulb were nothing but ladybugs,” Jason told me. Jason’s photographs clearly illustrated the potential hazard, as the accumulation of ladybugs nearly ignited a fire due to the bulb’s heat.
If you have fluorescent spiral light bulbs in your house, make sure to check them regularly for any creatures looking for warmth inside. Jason’s story serves as a sharp reminder that a simple but potentially life-saving inspection can avoid a disastrous house fire.
“I felt it was important to share Jason’s post with everyone,” he told me, “because this is a fire hazard I would have never known about.”
By regularly inspecting these light bulbs, you can avoid a potentially deadly scenario and keep your home safe from an unforeseen fire. Stay cautious and safeguard your house from risks you may not be aware of.
