Melania Trump maintained a quiet profile throughout the first several months of Donald Trump’s second term, but she has recently made more public appearances.
At the last White House Picnic, it wasn’t Trump who stole the stage, but the First Lady.
With summer right around the corner, First Lady Melania Trump returned to the limelight on June 12, drawing heads as she joined attendees for the 2025 Congressional Picnic. The traditionally secretive wife of President Trump startled many with her presence, one of her few excursions this year. The 55-year-old former model made a rare appearance on the South Lawn for the annual event, and her husband instantly lauded her, telling the crowd:
“I want to thank our magnificent First Lady for putting together this wonderful evening.” Melania, who is renowned for her reclusive nature and intense defense of her son Barron’s privacy, was spotted mingling with attendees while wearing a clean white shirt and vivid floral pants and smiling.

According to USA Today, Melania welcomed guests at the event in Dolce & Gabbana flowery cotton jacquard slacks and Manolo Blahnik pink suede shoes, an effortlessly gorgeous summer look that did not go unnoticed. Later that day, she was spotted speaking with others, and the photos soon circulated online, sparking a heated social media discussion.
Some online users praised her new appearance, with one writing, “Melania is 100% class!” Trump and Melania are the ideal marriage for all lovebirds to imitate.” Another said, “Melania looked her best tonight.” The hair was on point. [Her] dress was basic but lovely. Smiling as usual. 10/10.”
However, not everyone was as complimentary. Once photographs from the event circulated, the slogan “Is That Bruce Jenner?” quickly gained popularity. Critics swarmed social media, with some claiming Melania’s new style bore an eerie similarity to Caitlyn Jenner (previously Bruce). “At first glance, I thought I saw Caitlyn Jenner…” one Facebook user said.

The similarity has made news before. One Instagram user reposted old images of Caitlyn after the transition with shots of Melania, sparking comments such as, “Melania and Bruce Jenner appear remarkably similar,” and, “They DO look identical.” How strange. Melania’s appearance has always struck me as husky. Melania’s appearance is neither soft nor feminine, nor is it sweet. She possesses a manly character, and the facial structures are comparable. It is true.
Others, however, vehemently denied this assertion. One individual boldly said, “Melania looks NOTHING like Bruce Jenner!” Another person just responded, “Oh, p*ss off.”
The president, for his part, proceeded to laud her—not only for her appearance but also for her recent legislative efforts.
During his address, Trump mentioned her work in the Take It Down Act, a law that aims to remove nonconsensual sexual content online. “I’d want to thank Melania and everyone out there. When I discovered the measure was bipartisan, I replied, “You know, I think you’re going to take my job.”

People often scrutinize Melania Trump’s costume choices, sparking endless online discussions, with many claiming her style reveals subtle clues about her true emotions. According to Women’s Wear Daily, her style evolved considerably after becoming First Lady, from high-glamour catwalk outfits to more subdued and modest ensembles.
After 2016, she was regularly spotted wearing Ralph Lauren, Valentino, and Burberry. During Trump’s 2024 campaign tour, she wore names such as Michael Kors and Dior, but her style continues to split opinion.
Melania Trump, known for her ability to blend high-end splendor with occasional low-cost bargains, surprised everyone with her attire during the swearing-in earlier this year. Dressed in a sleek black dress with a now-viral wide-brim hat, the appearance was a stark contrast to the soft, Jackie Kennedy-style powder blue suit she wore during Donald Trump’s first inauguration in 2017.

Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw, chair of the History of Art Department at the University of Pennsylvania, evaluated the image and said:
“[Melania] has positioned herself firmly behind that ultra shiny table, keeping a bit of a boundary between herself and the viewer.”
One viewer offered a similar criticism: “I’m betting she doesn’t have a sensitive side to her. If she does, she never reveals it. It’d be wonderful if she did.”
