Michael Douglas is dubbed ‘dead’ following rare trip with his daughter, who is dealing with ‘snide’ remarks about him. PHOTO

Michael Douglas was not always a loving father. Cameron did not receive his father’s attention when he became a parent for the first time at the age of 43 during his failing marriage to Diandra Luker. Douglas was so preoccupied with his Hollywood job that he had little time to properly nurture his child.

Douglas came to his senses when his son was imprisoned for drug dealing and recognized he could no longer be absent from his son’s life. Fortunately, it wasn’t too late. Cameron began a fresh chapter in his life with his father’s help and finally became a family man after being released from jail.

One memorable evening, the actor ran across Catherine Zeta-Jones, who was 25 years his junior, while resting at a pub. They began speaking, and the “Wall Street” actor understood right away that he wanted to have children with her. He decided to be straightforward with her and said:

“I’m going to be the father of your children.”

His desire to have a family with the actress from “The Mask of Zorro” was fulfilled. The couple married in 2000 and had their first child, a son named Dylan Michael, the following year. Three years later, on April 20, 2003, the Hollywood couple had their first child, Carys Zeta Douglas.

Douglas began to consider what he needed to do when his children were born in order to provide a regular upbringing for his newborn girl and her toddler brother. He had no notion how being a father at a later age might affect Carys at the time.

Carys Zeta Douglas and her elder brother had a sun-kissed childhood in Bermuda’s lovely surroundings. Carys “honestly” had no idea her father was the famed actor Michael Douglas since she was shielded from the pomp and glamour of Hollywood. To her, he was just an adoring father who made great pancakes in the kitchen. Carys and Dylan thrived in an atmosphere of love and normalcy, ignorant of her father’s popularity, thanks to their peaceful family life.

Douglas made a critical decision to focus on his job as a parent after a less-than-ideal start to parenthood with his eldest child. He gave up his burgeoning Hollywood career to devote himself entirely to motherhood. It was a deliberate decision to provide Carys and Dylan with the attention and supervision they deserved.

Nonetheless, the “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” producer was concerned about reaching his mid-80s while his youngest children were still in their teens. He could already feel the increasing pressure to maintain a “fit” physique at all times. He discovered true contentment in letting his beloved bride pursue her job while immersed in home life. He also stated:

“These days, I’m preoccupied with being a father and carrying out my responsibilities as a husband. I never imagined having a family at my age. “I treasure this time.”

The family’s relocation to the lively metropolis of Manhattan had a profound impact on Douglas’ younger children’s lives. Carys, 6, “hated” the new location, which was crawling with photographers.

Carys was “incredibly smart” and “thoughtful” for her age, with a “mysteriousness” about her. Growing up with her father, the child was used to hearing, “Your grandpa has come to pick you up. Carys, on the other hand, will never forget one incident involving her father.

The girl went to a pharmacy by herself and spotted a tabloid headline that made her cry. She stated that this scene was etched in her mind:

“There’s this picture of my father that says, ‘Michael Douglas Cancer Again, Dying in a Month.’ “I just burst out crying.”

Nothing made sense to her. Most of all, she couldn’t comprehend why her parents didn’t inform her of such awful news. This was her first, but not her last, interaction with “snide” remarks regarding her father’s age, health, and looks.

Carys, who dislikes public appearances with cameras flashing from all sides, recently accompanied her father and mother to the Cannes Film Festival. Carys, a 20-year-old beauty, grasped her 78-year-old father’s hand while her beautiful mother did the same on the opposite side.

Unfortunately, reviewers quickly turned their attention to Douglas, and the actor became the focus of their criticism. Instead of being complimented on his sharp suit or elegant hairdo, the actor was dubbed “old haggard” and chastised for being “frail” and like a “fossil. Perhaps the most vexing criticism leveled at the 78-year-old father was that he appeared “dead.”

Although the “Wonder Boys” star’s smile was evident, it was his daughter’s bright eyes that stood out the most. Keris was on the red carpet in an incredible Elie Saab masterpiece, a gossamer-like white gown with modest floral accents. Her abundant hair was fashioned into an exquisite high bun, and natural makeup accentuated her inherent beauty. This 20-year-old beauty’s striking attire was complemented by glittering silver earrings, a bracelet, and a ring.

The young woman was not afraid to kiss her father’s cheek in front of the audience or to look at him proudly as they posed for cameras on the red carpet. Carys proudly exhibited her father’s adoration in public and remained close to him despite the hostility around his age.
