The upcoming biopic “Michael” offers a first look at Jaafar Jackson, the 27-year-old nephew of Michael Jackson, who bears a striking resemblance to the late pop icon. In a photo shared on Tuesday, Jaafar is captured donning a famous 1990s Michael Jackson look, complete with a white button-up over a white V-neck, black pants, and his hair tied back into a low ponytail as he performs onstage.

Producer Graham King expressed admiration for Jaafar’s portrayal, stating, “With Jaafar, every look, every note, every dance move is Michael. He embodies Michael in a way that no other actor could.” Director Antoine Fuqua emphasized Jaafar’s ability to channel Michael’s spirit, going beyond physical resemblance.
The image, captured by photographer Kevin Mazur, resonated with the feeling of going back in time to Michael Jackson’s live performances. Mazur noted, “The way he looks and acts, his mannerisms, everything — he’s Michael Jackson. For anyone who didn’t have the chance to see Michael perform live during his lifetime — this is how it was.”

Lionsgate announced the biopic in January 2023, with Jaafar Jackson in the role of Michael. The film, set to be released on April 18, 2025, also features Colman Domingo, Nia Long, and Miles Teller.
Director Antoine Fuqua expressed excitement about Jaafar bringing Michael to life, emphasizing their spiritual connection and Jaafar’s natural ability to emulate the iconic performer. The film is anticipated to provide an immersive experience for audiences, capturing the essence of Michael Jackson’s legendary performances.
