Miley Cyrus outlines what makes Ariana Grande a ‘real friend’

Miley Cyrus has completed her Used to Be Young TikTok series after a week and a half and 42 videos. The last installment, as expected, did not disappoint. Her last videos continued her personal look back at her first 30 years, which included Cyrus’ bond with fellow pop artist Ariana Grande.

Part 34 of the “Jaded” singer’s film focused on the moment she and Grande recorded a rendition of Crowded House’s 1986 smash “Don’t Dream It’s Over” for her Backyard Sessions series in 2015. Cyrus was starting The Happy Hippie Foundation at the time, a charity organization aimed at uniting young people to help vulnerable youth populations, such as those facing homelessness and members of LGBT groups. Grande was one of the special guests who joined Cyrus to support her cause.

“This is as serious as it gets—me getting Ariana Grande in onesies and performing in the backyard,” Cyrus added, recalling their performance. “I was flirting with her, and she was a little scared of me. We were having a good time!”

Cyrus became more solemn as she thought about their connection and what makes Grande precious to her. “Ariana’s a real friend,” she remarked. “There’s never been a time when I asked her to do something important to me and she didn’t come through, and she’s the same way with me.”

Their support for one another is reciprocal. When Grande arranged the One Love Manchester charity event to help victims of the May 22, 2017 bombing at Manchester Arena, Cyrus stepped up. They did “Don’t Dream It’s Over” again, and Cyrus also sang “Happy” with Pharrell Williams and her own song, “Inspired. The Hannah Montana star also expressed her support for her pal.

“As humans, we should always be who we say we are,” Cyrus said to Grande during the concert, according to Cosmopolitan. “And I believe Ariana has demonstrated that. She claims to be a terrific role model for many of you females out there. I believe she has demonstrated this by bringing everything together and enabling us to be a part of it.”

During a Howard Stern interview in 2018, the “Flowers” singer dubbed One Love Manchester “one of the most amazing moments ever” and said that she considers Grande a “good friend. “It’s not about how many hours you put in or how many inside jokes you have,” she explained, before adding, “Anything I’ve ever asked her to be involved in, whether it’s with Happy Hippie or working with young homeless kids or whatever, she’s always done.”

Grande’s “real friend” status is confirmed.
