Miracle survivor of deadly Air India crash walks away from wreckage

In a horrifying twist described as a miracle, a single passenger rose from the ashes and walked away from the wreckage of Air India Flight 171, which killed at least 241 people.

In one of the biggest aviation tragedies in recent Indian history, an Air India aircraft crashed shortly after departure from Ahmedabad on June 12. More than 200 passengers were killed. The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which was carrying 242 persons, including passengers and crew, took off at 1:38 p.m. local time and crashed into a medical college campus only minutes after departing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

Images from the crash site depict bizarre devastation: bits of the airplane strewn across roofs, burned-out classrooms, charred remains dragged from the streets, and, most shockingly, a substantial section of the aircraft’s tail buried in a collapsed wing of the college building.

‘No survivors’

The disaster occurred in an instant, yet its consequences will persist for a lifetime.

“It appears there are no survivors in the plane crash,” Ahmedabad Police Commissioner G.S. Malik told the Associated Press, adding that 204 remains had been retrieved.

He went on to say that because the airplane crashed in a heavily populated residential area with multiple workplaces, “some locals would have also died.”

“Exact figures on casualties are being ascertained,” stated the official”

Sole survivor

But in an emotional and unexpected revelation, Malik announced that one individual had been found alive amidst the devastation.

“My earlier statement was misquoted. One individual has been found alive. He is currently undergoing treatment in hospital. Doctors are closely monitoring status,” he told local media.

The lone survivor is Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British citizen originally from India. Vishwas had returned to visit his family and was on his way back to London with his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh (45). The brothers had spent time together in Diu, making memories they hoped to bring back to the UK.

However, the adventure ended in tragedy.

‘There are bodies all around me.’
Despite his injuries, Vishwas miraculously managed to breathe in a nearby hospital’s general ward. He still had his boarding card.

“Thirty seconds after takeoff, there was a giant boom, and the plane crashed. “Everything happened so quickly,” the survivor told the Hindustan Times.

Vishwas went through the smoking debris of the jet, burned bodies, and fuselage scattered along the way.

“When I stood up, bodies were all around me. I was afraid. “I stood up and ran,” the man explained. “There were pieces of the plane all around me.” Someone grabbed me, placed me in an ambulance, and took me to the hospital.

Now he waits in agony for news of his brother: “He was travelling with me. I can’t find him anymore. Please help me find him,” he pleaded.

‘Happily, happily, happily’
Among those tragically lost were London’s Jamie Greenlaw-Meek, 29, and his husband, Fiongal Greenlaw-Meek, who were both listed on the airline’s manifest.

Just seconds before boarding their final flight, the couple, who own Wellness Foundry, posted a strangely joyful video about going home.

Fiongal grinned brightly in the video, which has since gone viral on social media. He had no idea he was filming their final moments.

“We just arrived at the airport and are boarding. Goodbye, India, on a 10-hour flight back to London,” Fiongal remarked, speaking into the camera as the pair prepared to board the aircraft to London Gatwick.

As he continued to offer some views from his India trip, Fiongal quipped, “My biggest takeaway is to not lose patience with your partner.”

Before heartily laughing, flashing a nice grin, and blowing a kiss to his fans, he signed off with, “Going back happily, happily, happily calm.”

As authorities sift through the debris and families prepare for what comes next, one man’s heartbeat serves as a stubborn reminder that even in the worst catastrophes, miracles can happen.
