Mom gains online attention for the shirt she compelled her son to wear to school

A Texas mother took action after learning about her son’s troubling behavior at school, where he was identified as a bully. School administrators informed her that he had been verbally mistreating other students, using terms like “idiots” and “stupid.” In response, the mom decided to address the issue by making her son wear a T-shirt publicly declaring, “I am a BULLY” at Greenleaf Elementary School.

The mom, identified as Star, believed her son needed to face the consequences of his actions. She shared a picture of him wearing the T-shirt on Facebook, explaining that she wanted the parents of the children he had bullied to receive personal apologies. Star, an “old-school parent” who doesn’t sugarcoat the world for her children, defended her approach, stating that she aimed to make her son understand the impact of his behavior.

While some criticized Star’s method, she remained firm, emphasizing that her son needed to learn from the experience. Despite the controversy, Star claimed the school district supported her decision, with Splendora ISD stating that parents have the right to make important decisions on behalf of their child. However, child development professionals, including a child psychiatrist at Baylor College of Medicine, disapproved of Star’s approach, emphasizing that it was not advisable to embarrass a child and solidify a negative identity at such a young age.
