According to reports from local media and relatives of the victim’s family, a mother tragically lost her life on Monday night in Camden, New York, while attempting to save her son from a devastating house fire.
According to relatives of Brittany Jones’s family who spoke with the Daily Sentinel, the Jones family consisted of Brittany Jones, 35, her husband Aaron, and their son, who is 12 years old.
On the GoFundMe page that was put up by members of the family, Aaron’s sibling left a remark “The loss of a member of the family is something that can never be replaced.
The wife of my brother has gone away. The mother of my nephew has passed away.
She did everything in her power to get her son out of the blazing house in time to save his life. At this point, financial issues are not high on their list of priorities.
However, they have suffered a complete defeat. They are merely carrying the clothes that are currently on their backs.”
Reports indicate that numerous local fire departments worked together to battle the wildfire for several hours before they were successful in putting it under control.
Authorities have confirmed to the Daily Sentinel that the couple’s kid, whose name is listed on the GoFundMe page as Anthony, was able to flee the house, but that his mother’s body was discovered inside the home.
On Monday evening, members of the family waited in front of the house, hoping to catch a glimpse of Brittany when she emerged.
“You cling on to the hope that she’s okay,” Kayla Svereika, Brittany’s sister-in-law, said in an interview with CNY Central. “Nobody wanted to think that she was not okay,” Kayla said.
According to CNY Central, a first responder informed the couple that Brittany did not make it out of the house, but instead spent her final moments reassuring the couple’s son that he would live through the ordeal.
According to what Svereiki shared with the publication, “she was a formidable opponent in all she accomplished.” She did not do something only partially; rather, she finished it in its entirety.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office stated in a post that was published on Facebook on Tuesday that deputies and officers from the Camden Police Department responded to the fire at 9:45 p.m. on the previous day. The agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment that was made.
“When the deputies and village police arrived roughly three minutes after hearing the call, the house was entirely destroyed by flames,” they claimed.
“Upon arrival, they made the startling discovery that a resident could possibly still be present within the house. A victim who was initially believed to be a resident of the residence was later identified by firefighters.”
Sheriff’s investigators, members of the Sheriff’s ID Unit, and New York State Incident Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the incident, which officials claimed “does not appear suspicious.”
According to CNY Central, the Jones family believes the fire originated in the garage.
After the incident, several people, including a family friend named Alexandra Hope, paid respect to Jones through written words.
Hope referred to Brittany Jones’s “enormous” commitment to her “little family” in a post she made on Facebook. “You never saw her without Anthony by her side.
He was always there. She was a remarkable woman in every way, including the role of mother she played in her family’s life.”
