When a mother took her adolescent daughter to the doctor to get to the bottom of her disturbing symptoms, she had no idea he’d tell her she was pregnant.
Because she refused to believe it, the doctor responded with a fantastic retort that had the soon-to-be grandma shouting.
When it comes to our children, it’s natural to want to believe the best. Unfortunately, it is also totally natural for them to disappoint us, just as we did our own parents when we were children. Bad conduct is a part of growing up, but some news is far more difficult to absorb than others.
Children aren’t always as open and honest with their parents as we would like them to be, as we all learn and should know from our childhood experiences. Despite many of us telling our children, “You can come to me with anything,” the truth is that our lovely angels will conceal secrets from us at some point, as one mother discovered.

We hope that our children will never s, do d, or have unprotected s behind our backs, but unfortunately, these things may occur even if we believe we have taken all necessary efforts to keep our children out of trouble when they approach their adolescent years. We will almost certainly have to confront the truth that our child isn’t the little angel they pretend to be around us at some point before they reach adulthood.
That’s exactly what occurred in one story about a naïve mother who learned her daughter was ready to make her a grandmother. When the girl’s mother was in complete denial, rejecting the doctor’s diagnosis, he corrected her with a superb statement that could not have been more perfect.
Mrs. Jones took her 16-year-old daughter to the doctor when she began experiencing unexpected and troubling symptoms that interfered with her everyday activities. “What’s the problem?” the doctor inquired. Mrs. Jones quickly clarified, “It’s my daughter, Mandy.” She still has these appetites; she’s gaining weight, and she’s sick most mornings.”
The doctor performed a comprehensive check on Mandy, including one critical test, which yielded the findings he had predicted all along. So, turning to Mrs. Jones, he remarked, “Well, I don’t know how to tell you this, but your mandy is pregnant.” To Mrs. Jones’ surprise, he went on to say, “About four months would be my guess.”
Mrs. Jones’ head immediately began to spin. How is this possible? She was quite cautious with Mandy. Mrs. Jones lost no time in informing the doctor that he had made a serious error. “Pregnant?! She can’t be since she’s never been left alone with a male! Mandy, have you?” Mrs. Jones yelled at both the doctor and her daughter.
Mandy, of course, agreed with her mother’s judgment. “No, ma’am!” “I’ve never even kissed a man!” said the nice, innocent girl. At this point, the doctor must be tired of the antics because he’s holding a positive pregnancy test in his hands, and all the symptoms lead to the test being completely accurate. That’s when he came up with the ideal reaction, one that would silence little Mandy and have her mother yelling at the girl rather than at the good doctor.
So, placing his hands in his lab jacket, the doctor strolled up to the exam room window and peered out without saying anything. He just stood there silently, observing what was going on outside the window and waiting. Mrs. Jones had had enough after approximately five minutes. “Doctor, is there something wrong out there?” she questioned, and that was just what he’d been waiting for.

He turned to face the mother and her pregnant daughter with a smile on his face. “No, not really,” he said without hesitation, pausing briefly before gazing tiny Mandy dead in the eyes and continuing, “It’s just that the last time anything like this happened, a star appeared in the east and three wise men came over the hill. “I’ll be damned if I don’t make it this time!”
Mandy knew she had to confess at that moment, and Mrs. Jones was forced to face the music as well. Her kid was no Virgin Mary, and it was time to direct her frustrations elsewhere. The doctor or the test findings were not deceiving. It was Mandy, and the proof would be there in a few months.
Let this serve as a wake-up call to the rest of us. No matter how much we love them, our children are not flawless. Unfortunately, all too often, when a parent is forced to face this reality, they vent their frustration on the person who brought it to their attention, such as the doctor who informs them that their daughter is pregnant, the teacher who informs them that their child was caught cheating, or even the cop who busted their child with a… It’s time to return our focus to our children, which may include negative attention when they’ve earned it.
