The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints brightened New York City’s Times Square with a Nativity display on November 27, marking its annual Light the World initiative. The event aimed to infuse hope and joy into the Christmas season, with participation from nine national and global nonprofit representatives.
Around twenty-seven digital displays in Times Square featured Nativity scenes against dark blue starry backgrounds, encouraging people to let their light shine and remember Jesus Christ. The displays included the verse John 8:12, “I am the light of the world.”
Monsignor Kevin Sullivan of Catholic Charities commended the initiative for bringing light to a dark world and collaborated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
As part of the initiative, “Giving Machines” were introduced in Times Square and 60 other cities worldwide, almost doubling from the previous year when it was available in 28 cities. The Times Square Giving Machines found their permanent holiday location in front of The Church of Our Saviour at 59 Park Ave.
