On Wednesday, July 10, police arrested Weston Coppola Cage, Nicolas Cage’s son, for felony assault with a dangerous weapon. Bail has now freed him.
A Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman confirms to PEOPLE that Weston, 33, was detained in the city’s 77th division on a warrant related to an incident earlier this year.
Police records show that they booked Weston at 7:57 a.m. local time and released him on $150,000 bail at 9:50 a.m.
Law officers declined to clarify if the arrest had a direct connection to the April 28 incident, in which Weston allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation with his mother, Christina Fulton, at her Los Angeles residence before the argument turned violent.
Representatives for Weston and Fulton, aged 57, did not immediately reply to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
Back in May, the LAPD confirmed to people that “a battery report was taken” as a result of the incident, although Fulton denied claims that she and her son argued before the alleged altercation.
“Contrary to their claims, Weston and I did not argue prior to the incident,” she told people. Several of Weston’s best friends reached out to me on Sunday, April 28th, seeking assistance due to Weston’s mental-health crisis.
“I moved quickly to ensure his safety,” the statement added. “My son, who was clearly experiencing a mental breakdown, welcomed me when I arrived, leading to a dreadful experience.” I’ve always supported assisting my kid with his mental health issues. I’m doing everything I can to provide him with the ongoing help he requires.”
TMZ reports that no arrests took place at the time.
Weston, who has previously struggled with substance misuse, was arrested for DUI and hit-and-run in Los Angeles in 2017.
He told people about his sober battle two years ago, stating, “It got to the point where people thought I was digging my own grave.”
The father of four also stated that the birth of his first child allowed him to concentrate on rehabilitation.
“Having the combination of [now-ex] Danielle, Lucian, and my father in my life, just that trinity right there, is basically going to keep me here,” Weston told reporters.
