Nikki Garcia files for divorce from Artem Chigvintsev. Shocking details revealed…

Nikki Garcia has filed for divorce from Artem Chigvintsev following a two-year marriage.

Garcia, 40, applied in Napa Valley, California, on Wednesday, September 11, according to online documents obtained by PEOPLE.

The declaration comes about two weeks after Chigvintsev, 42, was jailed on a charge of corporal harm to a spouse, and just hours after a source informed PEOPLE that Garcia had hired a divorce attorney.

PEOPLE has reached out to Chigvintsev’s representative for comment. However, Garcia’s representative confirmed the divorce news to PEOPLE, stating, “Nikki Garcia has filed for divorce. “She continues to request privacy for herself and her family at this time.”

TMZ was the first to report the story.

On August 29, Napa Valley, California, detained Chigvintsev on a charge of corporal damage to a spouse. He was booked into the Napa County Jail and issued a $25,000 bond before being released in less than an hour, according to papers obtained by PEOPLE.

The records did not identify Garcia, but TMZ revealed that a 911 call about the event mentioned her. The dispatcher on the station’s recording reported that Garcia allegedly threw shoes at Chigvintsev during the argument.

At the time, a Garcia representative told PEOPLE that “this is a private matter, and Nikki asks for privacy for herself and her family at this time.”

Garcia’s absence from her wedding band during her first public appearance on Netflix’s Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef, a live hot dog-eating battle she co-hosted with Rob Riggle on September 2, sparked rumors of their breakup.

Just two days before the tragedy, the couple marked their second wedding anniversary with a post on their individual Instagram pages.

“Happy anniversary, my love, I can’t see my life without you,” Chigvintsev, 42, said on Instagram, with images from their wedding. “You are my everything ❤️”

On their anniversary, the former WWE star, 40, reflected on the couple’s love tale by sharing the words to Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”

“This song is our love story,” she captioned a video of their wedding day. I will never forget where I was when I questioned Jesus about Artem. Having a chat with He and God. How my emotions felt too quickly. It all felt too quick. Then this music came on.

“And that’s when I knew that I was falling in love with him and that it was all meant to be. 🙏🏼✨,” she went on:

Garcia and Chigvintsev met in 2017 when they were put together on Dancing with the Stars season 25, even though the retired WWE wrestler was engaged to John Cena. Garcia and Cena broke their six-year relationship in July 2018.

The DWTS couple reconnected after that year and made their relationship Instagram public in March 2019. Since then, Garcia and Chigvintsev have shared significant milestones: they became engaged in November 2019, welcomed son Matteo in July 2020, and said “I do” in August 2022.
