NYU College Republicans President resigns following ‘inappropriate’ comments about Barron Trump

The president of NYU’s College Republicans resigned after discussing Barron Trump’s life at school. After she resigned, the group sought to attract the president’s son.

Kaya Walker, president of New York University’s (NYU) College Republicans chapter, has resigned following allegations of making “inappropriate” statements regarding President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump.

Kaya said of her fellow NYU student, “He’s sort of like an oddity on campus,” and added, “He goes to class, he goes home.” Kaya’s views were included in a Vanity Fair piece released this month, and the America First (AF) Post posted her words and photograph on X.

On the night before Donald Trump’s second inauguration on January 20, 2025, conservative activist CJ Pearson, 22, organized a party to celebrate influential supporters of the president. The next week, CJ got an email from Julia Diorio, an NYU journalism student.

Julia wanted to interview CJ for the Washington Square News, but considering his links to Barron, he promptly urged her not to approach him. Julia had never seen the 18-year-old freshman, despite his prominence as NYU’s most famous student; thus, his anxiety was unfounded.

Nonetheless, she had become accustomed to friends and relatives asking about Barron, an NYU Stern School of Business student. Julia, the arts editor of the school’s newspaper, and her colleagues seldom reported on his presence on campus.

Kaya, on the other hand, was troubled by the attention he received. She felt he needed a more conventional college experience. The student even remembered one of her professors joking about Barron, saying, “He doesn’t really belong here.”

In a February 17 release of Kaya’s resignation, the College Republicans of America stated that their former president’s comment “does not align with the values and principles” of their organization.

Their press release continued, “Though Vanity Fair and The Independent unfairly framed what was said, upon review, we still found it to be inappropriate.” Kaya resigned on February 16, and the organization officially invited the 6’7″ famed freshmen to join them in “reshaping the Republican Party.”

According to the New York Post, Kaya was “forced to resign” due to her statements. Social media users were divided on the subject, with one stating, “She should not have been forced to quit. I think he’s unusual.”

Another user reacted to the news by saying, “They forced her to resign?” “I knew something was going to happen.” Someone else inquired, “Would you trust people like this?” She quickly hurried to the reporters.”

One individual questioned Kaya’s comment, saying, “‘Oddity.’. [sic] He simply goes to college and returns home like a normal guy.” Meanwhile, a Barron admirer said, “He’s a good kid.” A very concentrated young adult. I believe that is unusual in today’s culture.

An X user defended the president’s son, saying, “He [sic] has a big target on his back.” If other students don’t notice the risk he’s taking to live a normal life by attending college, they’re not paying attention. “Look at the volatility on college campuses these days; trust no one.”

One individual was angered by Kaya’s comments and remarked, “She should mind her own business.” Another person asked, “Well, she joked that professors say he doesn’t belong there.” Why would she target him or speak to the media about him? Another commenter, believing Kaya’s purpose was opportunistic, said, “Not the way to get your name in the paper.”

Kaya talked with the New York Post after her resignation was announced, and she stated, “I’ve been killing myself trying to support the conservative movement.”

The college senior said, “I’ve put everything into building up my chapter,” and added, “I increased [attendance] exponentially.” It’s been wild, especially in the last year. We’ve witnessed an increase in membership and had a terrific time.”

On February 4, the president’s youngest kid was first seen on campus, marking his first public appearance since his father’s inauguration. Barron dressed in a cream-colored sweater over a white polo shirt for his visit to New York.

He wore black jeans and black-and-white Adidas sneakers and carried a backpack. Despite his seemingly regular demeanor, netizens focused on his appearance, with some making disparaging remarks about his hands.

Instagram users swiftly expressed their opinions, with one ridiculing, “He’s got baby hands, awwww.” Another person said, “Just like Daddy.” Many users mirrored the remark, with a third writing, “He has tiny hands too☝️,” and another adding, “[He’s] got his daddy’s hands.”

Someone commented, “He’s got small hands like his dad,” while another netizen chuckled and said, “Little hands 😂.” After seeing Barron’s photos on X, formerly known as Twitter, one user remarked, “Look at those lady’s hands lol. [sic]”

The adolescent arrived in Greenwich Village in a convoy of five SUVs, which was closely observed by the New York Police Department (NYPD) and the Secret Service as Barron Trump came onto campus.
