On his 42nd birthday, Prince William receives a special honor at the location of his royal wedding

Westminster Abbey is literally ringing in Prince William’s 42nd birthday!

On June 21, the Prince of Wales turned 42. Westminster Abbey, the site of the future monarch’s 2011 marriage to Kate Middleton, rang bells to commemorate the occasion.

The London landmark posted on social media a picture of Prince William attending the Commonwealth Day service in March, wishing the Prince of Wales a very happy birthday. “We’ll be ringing the Abbey bells at 1 p.m. to celebrate.”

Westminster Abbey was known to ring its bells on several royal family members’ birthdays. However, because of financial difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 epidemic, the custom was altered, drastically lowering the number of royals who are granted the distinction.

Before 2020, the bells commemorated twelve royal birthdays. The accolade went to Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, and their four children, Prince Edward, Prince Andrew, Princess Anne, and now-King Charles. Charles’s wife, Camilla, also got the medal. The list was completed by Prince William, Princess Kate, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Westminster Abbey revealed that the bells will only ring on Queen Elizabeth and Charles’ birthdays in 2022.

Following Queen Elizabeth’s death in September 2022, Westminster Abbey once again changed the list of people whose birthdays the bells will commemorate. The list only includes King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Kate.

In addition, the London church sounds its bells on other royal occasions, such as the September anniversary of King Charles’ coronation and the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s passing.

Numerous birthday greetings were sent to Prince William, including heartfelt posts on social media from the numerous charities he supports. His family also commemorated the day; the royal family’s official X and Instagram pages posted an old image of Charles and William.

The Prince and Princess of Wales released a brand-new image of William beside his three kids. 42-year-old Kate captured the picture, which featured Charlotte, William, Louis, and George holding hands as they leaped into the air.

Happy birthday, Papa! We all love you very much! The Princess of Wales captioned the photo, writing, “Cx.” The couple signs with their first initials to show that social media communication originated with them. The note was signed with not just the initial “C” for “Catherine,” but also an “x,” which probably signifies a kiss.
