One twin had regular botox for 19 years, while the other did not. See the results…

If you’ve ever pondered the potential effects of Botox on your appearance but hesitated to try it yourself, here’s some insight. A study comparing two identical twins has unveiled the long-term impact of Botox usage. One twin consistently received Botox injections for nearly two decades, while the other twin did not engage in such treatments.

Botox, also known as Botulinum toxin injections, is a cosmetic procedure aimed at relaxing facial muscles to smoothen wrinkles and lines. Despite being a non-permanent solution that typically lasts up to four months, Botox has surged in popularity, with over 8.7 million cosmetic procedures performed using Botox in the US in 2022.

In 2006, two identical twin sisters aged 38 participated in a study focusing on facial lines. One twin received Botox injections two to three times annually in the forehead and between the eyebrows for the past 13 years. Additionally, she had received Botox twice in the two years preceding the study, targeting the crow’s feet region.

In contrast, the other twin had minimal exposure to Botox, using it only twice, three and seven years prior to the study. During the research, photographs were taken of both twins from various angles and capturing different facial expressions, including smiling and resting.

The images revealed that the twin who regularly received Botox had significantly fewer noticeable lines and wrinkles. Dr. William J Binder, the study’s author, concluded that prolonged Botox treatment can prevent the development of facial lines visible at rest and reduce crow’s feet.

While various environmental factors such as SPF use, sun exposure, and stress may have influenced the results, a follow-up study in 2015 found that the twins led very similar, healthy lives. Both used SPF 45-50 and refrained from using retinol, a form of vitamin A used to enhance skin tone and texture.

Despite residing on different sides of the planet, with one twin in Munich, Germany (who used Botox only twice), and the other in Los Angeles (who regularly used Botox), researchers highlighted the significance of the lower UV index in Munich. The treated twin displayed minimal forehead fine lines at rest, while the sporadically treated twin exhibited visible static forehead rhytides. The crow’s feet were milder in the treated twin and deeper in the sporadically treated twin, emphasizing the impact of Botox on minimizing facial lines.
