If you are one of those individuals who like tormenting and challenging their brains with optical illusions, I applaud you.

I’m hopeless at them. When I was six, my grandmother got me a ‘Train Your Brain’ book for my birthday. Needless to say, it remained on the shelves until I was almost 16. Even then, I couldn’t wrap my brain around half of the problems included within its pages.

Nonetheless, I know cognitive puzzles and illusions are quite popular on the internet. People worldwide enjoy testing their skills by decoding photos and uncovering hidden objects right before their eyes.

With that in mind, I thought I’d share one I recently discovered. Interestingly, I find myself struggling to achieve a high score, although I freely acknowledge that my eyes may not be the sharpest in the human population. The brainteaser below asks readers to count the faces on the “National Leaders Tree”…

It’s unknown where the photograph in question initially appeared, but it’s becoming increasingly popular online as people compete to see how many faces they can find.

Of course, everyone can see the two faces at the bottom of the tree, but the fun begins when you try to find the rest.

The quantity of faces you see reflects your memory.

There are more ‘academic’ ways to exhibit talent in such things, but if you’re prepared to try, jot down the number of faces you observe. When you’re finished, scroll down to see what your number represents.

Two to four faces.

As previously stated, the two faces at the bottom of the tree are clearly visible to everybody. If you can only recognize one or two more faces, you may have a memory issue.

5-6 faces.

Found more than four faces in the image? Good. Keep looking, but if you only discover five or six, you may be at risk for Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Seven to eight faces.

Your memory is perfectly decent, but not amazing. You may continue to exercise your brain by solving puzzles like these!

More than nine faces.

Congratulations; if you spotted nine or more faces, you have exceptional recall and facial recognition abilities.
