Lulu, Paul Simon’s daughter, had tough words for Richard Gere.
The 30-year-old singer took to Instagram Stories on Tuesday, July 8, to vent her outrage at the decision of the Pretty Woman star to sell her childhood home to real estate developers. The property is currently being destroyed to make way for nine new houses.
Lulu alleges Gere told her family that he would “take care of the land” when he paid $10.8 million for the Simon & Garfunkel guitarist and his wife Edie Brickell’s property in 2022. While she claims it was a “condition of his purchase” to preserve the home, she provides no additional information about the claimed arrangement.
“Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere—I do!” Lulu wrote in white lettering above a selfie and an image of a news item about the house’s impending demolition.

She said, “He purchased my childhood house. He promised to take care of the land as a condition of purchase. Proceeded to never move in and instead sold it to a developer as nine individual plots.”
“Hate him!” she captioned the shot.
A Gere spokesperson did not immediately reply to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
In a subsequent slide, she added, “I hope my dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness.”
An old photo of Gere, seemingly surrounded by the cats and dogs Lulu had as a youngster, accompanied the comment.
Her tweet was soon followed by a meme of a frog resting in front of a brilliant sky, captioned “Time will put your enemies in the ground.”
PEOPLE contacted reps for both Lulu and Gere but did not receive an immediate response.
In October 2024, Richard and his wife, Alejandra Gere, officially sold the New Canaan, Conn., property for $10.75 million, two years after purchasing it from Paul and Brickell.
In May, it was disclosed that the historic 1930s residence would be demolished to make way for a nine-property development. The announcement occurred after the couple had already relocated to Madrid so Richard and Alejandra, who are originally from Spain, and their children could be closer to her relatives.
The couple has two boys, Alexander, six, and James, five. Alejandra also has an 11-year-old son, Albert, with ex-husband Govind Friedland, and Richard has a 25-year-old son, Homer, with ex-wife Carey Lowell.

“For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, lifelong friends, and culture,” Richard told Vanity Fair Spain in April 2024. “She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six years living in here.”
Alejandra has subsequently stated that they aim to return to the United States in a “few years.”
Despite the property’s impending demolition, salvage professionals from New York-based Hudson Valley House Parts sought to recover some of the home’s architectural beauties for repurposing.

As documented in an Instagram Reel posted in May, the firm provided an inside peek at the vast property and some of the historic items they were able to salvage.
“For the past month, we have been fascinated by this estate as our team has been working on location salvaging many architectural elements,” they captioned the photo.
“Formerly owned by Richard Gere, who purchased the property from Paul Simon and Edie Brickell, this 1930s home is scheduled for demolition to divide the 32 acres into nine large lots,” the image’s description stated.
