During his first royal appearance, Prince William briefly discussed Kate Middleton’s well-being after the Princess of Wales revealed that she had completed chemotherapy.
The 42-year-old Prince of Wales shared the information with supporters during a visit to Llanelli, Wales, on September 10. “It’s good news, but there is still a long way to go,” Prince William told Hello! during a walkabout.
Many people were thinking of Princess Kate as they waited outside the gates of Swiss Valley Community Primary School, Prince William’s first trip of the day. As he made his way out and spoke with the audience that had gathered to see him, he thanked those who inquired about his wife, telling one, “She is better, and thank you.”
William approached the gathering, welcomed them with “bore da” (which means “good morning” in Welsh), shook hands, exchanged cards, and even admired a pet dragon, the heraldic animal on Wales’ national flag.

Jane Stoneman, a well wisher, handed William a note to deliver to Kate.
“I said it was great to see Kate getting better and recovering,” she tells people. “I told him I enjoyed the video and asked him to give her the card and all my love.”
William looked at the emotional note and stated, “She is better.” “Thank you very much.” Stoneman adds, “It’s just wonderful that he took the time to come. They work incredibly hard, and we’re fortunate to have them. Catherine and her family will benefit the nation as a whole.
“It was a beautiful video—it made me cry,” Stoneman recalls of the poignant video message published the day before. “Aren’t they human?” Catherine has gone through a lot, and it’s wonderful to see how much her family loves her. She emphasized the importance of loving and receiving love.
Catherine Owens was also among the crowd, clutching a dragon toy belonging to her daughter Emeline. “I told him it was my daughter’s, and I’d brought it along for him to see a representation of Wales,” she said. “I need to return it before nightfall,” she said. He said, ‘Oh, absolutely. “Very important.”
Owens says on the prince’s visit, “We were quite thrilled to have him here. The school is important to the community, and the majority of the people here now have children who attend it.”
The visit occurred the day after Princess Kate announced that she had finished chemotherapy for cancer in an extraordinary home video with Prince William and their children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6. The 42-year-old Princess of Wales has remained out of the public eye for nearly the entire year of 2024, having revealed in March that she had started chemotherapy after post-operative testing following stomach surgery in January revealed cancer.
Princess Kate said in audio over the film, which Will Warr shot in Norfolk in August, “As the summer draws to a close, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment.”
“The past nine months have been really difficult for us as a family. Life, as you know, can change in a moment, and we’ve had to figure out how to navigate the stormy waters and uncharted route,” she explained.
“The cancer journey is complicated, frightening, and unpredictable for everyone, particularly those closest to you.” As the film rolled over a montage of moments featuring the Princess of Wales and her family, the majority captured outdoors, Princess Kate remarked, “With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in ways you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything.”
“This time has most importantly taught William and me to ponder and be appreciative of the basic yet vital things in life, which so many of us take for granted. She expressed her gratitude for the simple act of loving and receiving love.
“My primary focus is now on doing everything possible to avoid cancer. Although I have completed chemotherapy, my road to healing and full recovery is lengthy, and I must continue to accept each day as it comes,” Kate stated, referring to what her husband said in Wales on September 10.
People know that Princess Kate is looking forward to a few public appearances in the coming months, but as she stated in her video message, her primary emphasis is on becoming cancer-free, and her road to complete recovery is lengthy.
The prince will continue a modest schedule of external activities for the remainder of the year, emphasizing the need to focus on a complete recovery.

In her inaugural public update on her health in June, Princess Kate admitted that she experienced “good days and bad days” while undergoing chemotherapy.
