Queen Camilla is exposing a “secret” from her 20-year marriage to King Charles.
The queen spoke to the media in Rome on Wednesday, April 9, during their official visit to Italy, which also celebrated their wedding anniversary. She reminisced about the last two decades with her husband.
“Who could think it’s been 20 years? What’s the secret? I don’t know”. I suppose it’s just a friendship,” she told Hello! Magazine.
“I suppose doing this takes up the majority of the time,” the Queen said during a visit to the Alessandro Manzoni school, where children were learning about Paddington Bear.
Queen Camilla, who had her own responsibilities on Wednesday morning before meeting with King Charles in the Italian Parliament, remarked of their marriage, “We are always going in separate directions, like ships that pass in the night, actually. We zoom by each other. In fact, we have some catching up to do this afternoon.
She said that they plan to exchange anniversary presents when they return to the United Kingdom from their four-day trip to Italy.
“We are going to save that,” Queen Camilla told the newspaper. “Otherwise…you must rush it. You do not have time to say anything. No, I believe we will dig into our pockets and pull something out at the end of the day.
Queen Camilla disclosed that her husband will receive a traditional Chinese gift to mark their 20 years of marriage.
“Dream on!” she joked when asked whether she’d want King Charles to relax, adding that the pair “have time over dinner to do a bit of catching up,” Hello! reported.
Camilla also told reporters that she had visited Italy as a youngster and that it was great to be returning to celebrate her milestone occasion.
“You travel to Italy and feel better. They are really friendly. “You’ve got the food, the weather, and there’s something in the air,” she told the site.
Following a day of engagements, the King and Queen celebrated 20 years of marriage on Wednesday with the ultimate royal date night: a glam state supper at the Palazzo Quirinale. Their state visit to Italy, which runs from April 7 to April 11, is their first overseas travel this year.
King Charles and Queen Camilla met more than 35 years before they married. Sparks soared when the two were acquainted by a friend in 1970, but they later married different individuals.
Charles and Camilla later resumed their affair and finally parted from their respective lovers, with Charles’ divorce from Princess Diana completed a year before her death in a Paris automobile accident in 1997.
They gradually made their love public in the following years. Camilla has supported Charles throughout his royal life, including his ascension as King in September 2022 and his cancer diagnosis in February 2024, with ongoing treatment.
