Queen Latifah has provided her response following CBS’s decision to cancel The Equalizer before the season finale

Queen Latifah is reminiscing on her experience on The Equalizer.

Just days before the season 5 finale on Sunday, May 4, the 55-year-old actress uploaded an Instagram photo on Friday, May 2, after CBS revealed that the program will not return after its fifth season.

Latifah shared a photo of her character Robyn McCall carrying a gun, with the caption, “I’m the one you call when you can’t call 911.”

“Stepping into a kick-ass role like Robyn was everything I hoped it would be,” she commented next to the shot, praising her producing partner Shakim Compere. “The Equalizer blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal.”

“Thank you to our amazing cast, crew, producers, and writers!” said the actress. “And I cannot say enough about the FANS! You’ve been so devoted, so loud, and so ride-or-die—which is exactly why we keep doing this. We cannot thank you enough.” It means everything to us.”

She ended her message by telling supporters that they will not be missing her from their screens for too long, stating, “Don’t worry—I will be back kicking ass in something new real soon.” She expressed her eagerness to “share it” with everyone soon.

Two days before the scheduled broadcast of the finale, CBS announced the show’s cancellation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show’s ratings dropped from an average of 7.89 million viewers to about 6 million viewers after shifting to a later time slot on Sunday evenings.

According to Glamour, the program joins the ranks of CBS cancellations that include S.W.A.T., FBI: International, and FBI: Most Wanted, as well as the comedy The Neighborhood and Poppa’s House.

The Equalizer, starring Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira, Laya DeLeon Hayes, and Lorraine Toussaint, is the newest reinvention of the 1980s television series of the same name. It was originally turned into a film starring Denzel Washington in 2014, with a sequel released in 2018.

The sitcom launched in 2021, and the performers, notably Latifah, Hayes, and Toussaint, grew close throughout production. Toussaint told PEOPLE in February that she’s formed a “family” with the actors.

“This is season 5 of The Equalizer; we really are a family,” she exclaimed with pride. “As close as we seem to be on the screen, we really are that close.”

“I love me some Queen and Baby Laya!” she continued. “It’s really a good family, and we’re solid.”
