Randy Travis sings “Amazing Grace” again three years later after his massive accident, and it’s amazing

This video depicts Randy Travis’s extremely emotional performance in honor of another great country music veteran, George Jones.
The memorial was held at the Grand Ole Opry, a venue where many country musicians have had the opportunity to shine. Travis, seated alone on stage in front of a subdued crowd, began his version of “Amazing Grace.”

Except for the gentle, purple- and blue-hued stage lighting that illuminated the lone performer, everything’s illumination was low. The focus fell on Travis, who stood alone in the almost eerie calm. Travis began to sing with only a soft touch of his guitar.

The song was sung in the singer’s trademark rich, deep tones, leisurely and respectfully. The emotional recital enveloped the auditorium and hugged those who had the luxury of being there that night, with hardly a sound from the audience disturbing it.

Many of the country music industry’s biggest names attended the memorial to pay their respects to George Jones, including Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, and, of course, Randy Travis.

Randy had suffered a major stroke three years prior, putting his future in jeopardy. His wife Mary says it’s been a difficult path with many emotional ups and downs, but they are appreciative of Randy’s fans’ prayers and support.

“We’re fortunate. We’re content with where we are. We have no idea what God has in store for us at the conclusion of this journey.” Right now, we’re just grateful to be here, and we’re singing a different song,” she adds, wiping away a tear. “We’re happy to serve a purpose wherever there is one to serve.” Of course, he would want to return to that platform one day. We’re just enjoying life right now and feel extremely fortunate to be where we are.”

This performance took place three years after the stroke. Mr. Travis needed many more years of counseling to regain his voice and guitar talents. Randy, God bless you. You still have it.
