Witherspoon acknowledged that she is no longer on speaking terms with a fellow actor following a ‘roast’ at a previous awards presentation, but she was quick to dismiss social media speculation about who it was.

Her words sparked outrage among fans, with many speculating that they were directed at Titanic star Kate Winslet.

But Witherspoon resorted to social media to clarify her connection with the Hollywood A-lister.

On Sunday (2 February), she posted on Instagram Stories: “Hey folks… just chatted with my best friend for years, Kate W.

“We chuckled at this folly. The actress stated, “We are good friends and have never had any falling out,” despite internet speculation.

In the following narrative, she included a screenshot of a news headline and stated, “This is completely UNTRUE…”.”So silly!”

It all started with the 48-year-old’s interview with PEOPLE last week, during which she was promoting her next picture, You’re Cordially Invited, alongside Will Ferrell.

The anonymous star had specifically invited Witherspoon to speak at a ‘classy’ event in her honor, claiming it still ‘physically haunts’ her today.

The singer admitted that she had not attended this specific awards event and had incorrectly assumed it ‘was like a roast’.

“So this friend of mine, who I didn’t really know that well but who was a very serious, proper actress, asked me to give her an award,” PEOPLE recently reported.

“So I got up and roasted her.”

However, Witherspoon stated that it was a ‘British,’ ‘elegant,’ and ‘classy’ occasion and that some of the statements she made were inappropriate.

She recalled the comments, saying, “I was like, ‘Remember the time we got laser hair removal?'”

“I’m still embarrassed about it,” the actress explained.

Apparently, the embarrassing quip was enough to cause the actor to quit talking to Witherspoon completely.

“I am not even joking; we are no longer friends; I believe she has lost interest in me,” she informed me.

“I thought it was really humorous, but I just had the wrong audience. It was rather awful. Yeah. I’m not even joking; she no longer speaks to me. “Oh well.”
