Richard Gere is speaking openly about his life in Spain with his wife Alejandra Silva.
In an interview with Elle España, the 75-year-old Pretty Woman star revealed that moving to the nation with his wife, 41, and their children, including sons Alexander, 5, James, 4, and Silva’s son Albert, 11, had brought him new fulfillment.
“The fact is that you are witnessing our momentum. “We’re happier than ever,” Gere told the magazine. “[Alejandra] is happy because she is at home, and I am happy because if she is happy, I am happy.”
The Agency actor, who met Silva in Italy in 2014 following his divorce from ex-wife Carey Lowell, with whom he has a son, Homer James, 24, said their similar love for environmental work keeps them together. The duo has worked together on the Sierra a Mar project in Mexico, among other initiatives that have gained them notoriety.
“We may all reduce our feeling of ego, of self.” And that’s when true change happens,” he said of the job.
“My wife shines for her open-mindedness and her genuine sense of gratitude,” he told me. “So connecting with that, whether you call it spirit, religion, love, or compassion [is] infinite.”
Silva told Elle España that she and her husband have been in sync since they first met in Positano on the Amalfi Coast. They have synchronized their aims and goals since their marriage in 2018.
Silva described us as soul mates. “We have the same beliefs, we see the world in the same way, and we feel as if we had known one another for a long time from the start. This only happens once, if at all… The karma from our previous existence brought us together.
Gere originally revealed his ambitions to relocate to the European country in an April 2024 interview with Vanity Fair Spain. The actor stated that the relocation to his wife’s native nation was to bring her closer to her relatives.
“For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends, and her culture,” Silva’s dad said. “She was very generous in giving me six years to live in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six years to live in hers.”
Gere then appeared on the Today Show in November 2024, just before their transfer, and stated, “My wife is Spanish, and we’re heading there for her family, friends, and culture. The kids are multilingual, so it will be really beneficial to them.”
The following month, he and Silva were spotted while out and about in Madrid.
Gere, who had breakout parts in American Gigolo (1980) and An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), revealed last month on an edition of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast that he made “a subconscious choice on my part to step back” and play in lower-profile productions.
“I said, ‘Enough.'” I don’t enjoy all the attention… “I don’t want to be looked at,” the actor recalled of his decision.
However, he also stated that he had previously defended his acting “choices.” “I took some decisions—not that I’m embarrassed of them—but there were options not to play in the big game. They were going to participate in a smaller game.”
