The Christmas spirit has arrived for Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who embraced the holiday season by recreating the iconic single cover of the classic “Last Christmas” by the British pop duo Wham!
The duo, both 47 years old, and co-owners of the U.K. soccer team Wrexham, meticulously styled their hair and outfits to mirror those worn by Wham! stars George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley in the original cover art released in 1986. McElhenney shared the amusing results on his Instagram on Monday, and Reynolds also posted the image on his Instagram Stories.
In the black-and-white photo, the pair replaced the names of the pop stars with their own and incorporated the logo of their beloved Wrexham soccer club in the corner. The caption humorously read, “WREXHAM!” accompanied by a Christmas tree emoji.

Sporting leather jackets, Reynolds and McElhenney recreated the 1983 Wham! studio album “Fantastic.” Against a red backdrop, McElhenney, with a mustache reminiscent of Ridgeley’s, and Reynolds, with his jacket unbuttoned, posed for the camera. They playfully replaced “Wham!” with “Wrexham!” at the top of the cover art, paying homage to their docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham.”
McElhenney later shared the images on his Instagram Stories, accompanied by Wham!’s iconic festive tune, “Last Christmas.”

This festive tribute precedes the seventh anniversary of George Michael’s death. The music legend passed away unexpectedly on Christmas day in 2016 at the age of 53, leaving fans worldwide shocked. Although his death was deemed “unexplained but not suspicious” by Thames Valley police, autopsy results were inconclusive.
Michael’s lasting influence was acknowledged by Kate Middleton during her Together At Christmas carol concert in 2023. The event featured U.K. radio host Roman Kemp introducing Jacob Collier’s rendition of “Last Christmas” on a piano originally owned by John Lennon and later by George Michael. Michael, Kemp’s godfather, was remembered as a man of great kindness and compassion, with Kemp noting his spiritual presence at the event.
The Royal Carols: Together at Christmas will be broadcast on ITV1 and ITVX on Christmas Eve at 2:45 p.m. EST
