Scarlett Johansson made a rare four-word statement about her feelings for ex-husband Ryan Reynolds, 12 years after the couple separated.
We ask you to think back to 2008. Twilight and Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight were released in theaters, Britney Spears made a memorable comeback, and Barack Obama was elected the 44th President of the United States.
In the same year, Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds were united in matrimony in Vancouver, Canada.
The couple, who were engaged four months before their wedding, were only wedded for two years before announcing their separation and completing their divorce in 2011.
In 2012, the Green Lantern actor married Blake Lively of Gossip Girl, and Johansson married Romain Dauriac in 2014 and Saturday Night Live favorite Colin Jost in 2020. Both celebrities have since married again.
Although their divorce is public knowledge, both Marvel stars have stayed relatively quiet about their former romance (at least publicly) and do not discuss it much.
However, the subject arose during Johansson’s visit on Gwyneth Paltrow’s The Goop Podcast in 2023.
When the talk turned to partners and marriage, Paltrow expressed surprise that Johansson was formerly with the Deadpool star.
“Oh, that’s right, because I forgot that you were married to Ryan Reynolds!” Paltrow stated, before adding, “Goals!”
Johansson laughed and stressed that the affair was short-lived.
“We weren’t married very long, but we were when I first met you, for Iron Man [2] or whatever,” she told me.
Paltrow continued, “We love a good Ryan Reynolds in our house.”
In accord, Johansson stated, “He’s a good guy.”
During their separation, the former couple issued a joint statement, stating, “After long and thoughtful contemplation on both of our sides, we’ve decided to dissolve our marriage.
“We began our relationship with love and will end it with love and kindness.” We do not demand privacy, but we greatly appreciate it.
Johansson, at least, benefits from their divorce as she no longer has to witness her husband consuming mashed potatoes from his butthole. Lively now gets to enjoy that show.
Indeed, it’s not entirely false. Movies are real, right?
Being with Reynolds comes with its own set of challenges, as the humorous man does not shy away from the most ludicrous of comedic moments.
