Officials in the state of Texas said that a woman who was 60 years old passed tragically on Monday in Dallas County after the vehicle she was driving was carried away by flood waters that were caused by severe thunderstorms in the state.
Clay Jenkins, the County Judge of Dallas County, Texas, announced the news through Twitter: “We are announcing our first fatality in Dallas County, Texas.”
“A woman in her sixties died when the floodwaters that she was driving through washed away her vehicle.
Please say a prayer for her family, which includes her husband and their children. On highways, even less than an inch of water can cause a driver to lose control of their vehicle.”
Only a few hours prior to the proclamation, Jenkins had already proclaimed a state of emergency in Dallas County and asked for aid from the state and federal governments for the individuals who were affected by the flooding.
Jolene Jarrell, a mother of three, was revealed to be the individual who passed away by the NBC affiliate KXAS.
According to the source, Jarrell was working as a driver for a ride-sharing service at the time of the flooding incident, and she had just finished dropping off a passenger.
According to the Chief of the Mesquite Fire Department, Rusty Wilson, who spoke with KXAS, Jarrell was talking on the phone with her husband when the vehicle started to fill up with water. When she bent down to pick up the phone, the call suddenly ended.
Wilson said of the family, “They informed me that they were on the phone with her when they lost touch, so they were actively searching for her.” “They told me that they were on the phone with her when they lost touch.”
In spite of the fact that a number of publications in the media asserted that Jarrell was working for Uber at the time of the occurrence, the company denied those accusations.
According to a tweet that was posted by Andrea Lucia of the CBS affiliate KTVT, Jarrell’s family and friends praised her as “a hardworking mother who sacrificed her life for $18.”
“She was an outstanding example of what a mother and grandma should be. She was the backbone and support of the family, and she did not deserve this “KTVT spoke with Jason, the spouse of Jarrell, who shared their story.
According to KXAS, Jason is the one who found the SUV that belonged to his late wife after she had passed away.
The film from the news site shows that once it was discovered, the vehicle was turned over such that it was parked underneath a bridge in an inverted posture.
Mesquite, which is located east of Dallas, received more than 12 inches of precipitation on Monday, as reported by a FOX affiliate station in the area called KDFW.
