June Lockhart, famous for her classic appearances as the perfect TV mom, had a career spanning nine decades that extends far beyond her beloved character, Ruth Martin, on “Lassie.” From 1958 until 1964, she played Timmy’s loving mother alongside Jon Provost as Timmy, developing a strong relationship with the titular collie.
From 1965 until 1968, Lockhart enthralled audiences as Dr. Maureen Robinson, the steadfast matriarch of “Lost in Space.” Her extensive career has included appearances in a variety of television shows such as “Bewitched,” “Petticoat Junction,” “Magnum, P.I.,” “Step by Step,” and “Beverly Hills, 90210.”

Lockhart has also starred in approximately 40 episodes of “General Hospital,” and her most recent projects include a 2006 episode of “Grey’s Anatomy,” the TV movie “Holiday in Handcuffs” (2006), and the 2016 film “The Remake.”
Lockhart’s theatrical charisma earned her a Tony Award in 1948 for Outstanding Newcomer Performance for her appearance in “For Love or Money.”

Lockhart’s interests extend beyond film and stage to the cosmos; as a longtime supporter of NASA, she received the Exceptional Public Achievement Medal in 2013 for her promotional efforts with the organization.
Her personal life includes two marriages, the first to John F. Maloney, with whom she has two children, June Elizabeth and Anne Lockhart (an actor herself), and the second to John Lindsay.

Rituals like watching “A Christmas Carol” together, the 1938 film in which she made her debut with her actor parents, Gene and Kathleen Lockhart, highlight her rich family life.
In a 2015 interview with The Daily Item, Lockhart reflected on her life and work, saying, “I’ve had many opportunities that just fell into my lap over the years, and I’m glad I was equal to them.”

I used to believe that 90 was a truly old age. But I feel 55. I’m quite lucky to still be active and working.” This phrase embodies her undying enthusiasm and zeal for life, which have inspired and entertained generations.
