Starbucks employee receives praise for discreetly leaving note on cup to assist young woman

A Starbucks employee has garnered praise online for stepping in to ensure a woman felt safe in a concerning situation.

Instances where strangers intervene to offer assistance in public spaces are often a beacon of hope, albeit not always common.

However, staff members at a Corpus Christi, Texas branch of Starbucks demonstrated readiness to act, earning accolades on social media.

In February 2022, the mother of 18-year-old student Brandy Selim Roberson shared an incident on Facebook, commending the coffee chain’s employees for their proactive approach.

Roberson found herself alone in the coffee shop when a man entered and began behaving oddly, escalating to loud and animated behavior. With evening setting in, staff grew concerned for the high-school student’s well-being as the man engaged with her.

Reacting swiftly, a female barista discreetly penned a note on a paper cup, passing it to the teen under the guise of “an extra hot chocolate someone forgot to pick up.”

The note read: “Are you okay? Do you want us to intervene? If you do, take the lid off the cup.”

Upon noticing the row of baristas attentively watching her, Roberson felt reassured and appreciated the supportive gesture, despite not requesting intervention.

Speaking to The New York Post, she expressed gratitude, stating, “This reaffirms my faith in humanity. Maybe just seeing this story, others… if given the opportunity to say something or turn away, they would say something.”

The post gained traction on social media, with users commending the staff’s quick thinking and empathy.

One user lauded the proactive approach, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in today’s society. Others echoed sentiments of appreciation for the demonstration of compassion and concern.

The heartening story resonated deeply with many, evoking emotions ranging from hope to gratitude, with some remarking that it gave them goosebumps.
