Steve Kornacki’s position at NBC is shifting.
The 45-year-old data journalist has struck a deal with NBCUniversal that would result in his departure from MSNBC, according to PEOPLE. His new deal will instead broaden his involvement throughout NBC News’ programs.
Kornacki will continue to give statistical analysis of surveys, election results, and significant sporting events. He’ll also be on NBC News Now, Meet the Press, Today, and NBC Nightly News.
His new position as chief data analyst at NBC News will allow him to explore non-political and sports-related ventures outside of the network.
PEOPLE has contacted MSNBC for comment.
Kornacki joined MSNBC in 2012 and has hosted many shows, including the 4 p.m. hour of MSNBC Live, the Monday edition of MTP Daily, and Up with Steve Kornacki on Saturday and Sunday mornings. He also co-hosted MSNBC’s ensemble show, The Cycle.
The journalist’s departure comes amid many changes at the TV news network.
MSNBC announced its decision to part ways with political pundit and The ReidOut anchor Joy Reid in a message to its personnel in February. Joy Reid responded to the rumors surrounding her departure by posting a message on BlueSky and Instagram.
“I just want to thank everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets,” says Reid. “I’m very proud of the [email protected] crew, who are like family, and all of our fans and friends.” See you tomorrow at 7 p.m. one more time.”
Despite several high-profile exits, MSNBC has added a slew of fresh talent to its lineup, including Antonia Hylton of NBC News, Eugene Daniels of Politico, Catherine Rampell, and Jackie Alamany of The Washington Post.
