Story of the Day: This inspiring story is about single mother who raises son with the same health conditions…

Most people are terrified or heartbroken when they realize their child was born with a handicap. Many people born with these obstacles, however, are typically driven to overcome them. Furthermore, it demonstrates to others that they may still live a fulfilling life. So it was with Lisa Newtop. A mother with Down syndrome demonstrated to the world that she was just as capable as any other parent.

Lisa Newtop was 30 when she discovered she was pregnant. Some people were surprised by the pregnancy because both she and the baby’s father had Down syndrome. Unfortunately, many people criticized her for having the baby. Lisa’s mother, Patti, on the other hand, was nothing but encouraging.

“At work, I was checking my messages, and there was this message from Lisa saying, ‘Hi, mom.'” I just wanted to let you know you’re going to be the grandma.” Patti spoke up.

Most people were surprised to learn of her pregnancy because Nic’s father also had Down syndrome. Males with the disease are usually deemed sterile. Regardless, Lisa and her partner at the moment took a brave decision.

Especially since society had an unfavorable perception of people with Down syndrome at the time. So much so that many of Lisa’s friends abandoned her, while their parents feared she was a bad influence on their children.

Regardless of who remained in her life, the Down syndrome mother was determined to provide a good existence for baby Nic. Patti told TODAY in 1995 that she and her husband had planned to vacation and were relieved to finally enjoy their now-empty house. Alternatively, when she received the devastating news about her grandchild, she knew she was precisely where she needed to be.

Lisa and Patti worked together to provide baby Nic, who was also born with Down syndrome, with the best possible quality of life and the greatest love a young guy could ask for. Lisa, the Down syndrome mother, demonstrated to the world that she could still love empathically, uninhibitedly, and completely.

Lisa has devoted the past many decades to her infant child. In certain circumstances, she required more assistance than her family could supply. Almost 30 years later,

Nic lives in Stockton with his grandma, and his Down syndrome mother lives in an apartment nearby. Norm died in 2021, but not before forming a strong relationship with Nic, who frequently referred to him as “Dad.”

Nic’s father died when he was five years old from a heart issue, leaving the youngster with “two moms” and Norm, demonstrating how Patti and her husband had a significant effect on the young man’s life.

Lisa, with the assistance of her mother, has transformed the way the world perceives people with specific illnesses, as well as dads and mothers with Down syndrome. Moreover, her son, whom she’s “so proud of,” has high ambitions, further proving that people with the condition can have a chance at a life similar to their peers with the right kind of love and support from those around them.
