Karmelo Anthony, 17, is suspected of fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf at a Texas track competition last week. He allegedly told his adversary, “Touch me and see what happens.”
A new police report provides an update on the tragic altercation that occurred after Metcalf reportedly approached Anthony and requested him to move from his seat.
The two youngsters were both competitors in a track meet in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, but they had never met before. Metcalf reportedly accosted Anthony, who attends another school, for sitting in the tent belonging to Frisco Memorial High School in the stands and told him to relocate.
Austin’s twin brother, Hunter, who was also present, said to WFAA, “My brother stepped in and said, ‘You need to move. And he says, ‘Make me move’.”
Anthony allegedly grabbed his rucksack and took out a knife. He proceeded to stab Austin in the chest.
Hunter described how he cradled his brother in his arms, hoping to stop the bleeding while waiting for emergency personnel to come.
Authorities have charged Anthony with murder and set his bond at $1 million.
Fox News has now acquired an arrest record that provides additional details on the pre-stabbing confrontation. According to accounts, Metcalf informed Anthony that he needed to leave the Memorial team tent. According to the complaint, Anthony “grabbed his bag, opened it, and reached inside it” before saying, “Touch me and see what happens.”
“Austin stood up and pushed the male to get him out of the tent,” the police report stated.
A witness told police that Anthony then “reached into his bag, and the male took a knife out of it and stabbed Austin.”
According to Fox News, a school resource officer was the first to arrive at the scene. “I was protecting myself,” Anthony explained. “He put his hands on me.”
An online campaign for Anthony has raised around $150,000 in donations.
