After a jet carrying 61 passengers crashed in S<0xC3><0xA3>o Paulo, Brazil, with no survivors, airline officials stated.
Yesterday (9 August), a VoePass aircraft flew from Cascavel, Paraná, to Guarulhos, S<0xC3><0xA3>o Paulo.
The jet left Cascavel at 11.56 a.m. local time and made its last signal around an hour and a half later.
Terrifying images uploaded on social media show the airplane spiraling out of control before crashing into a group of trees.
The plane crashed in a gated neighborhood in Vinhedo, and another video shows flames and smoke flowing from the fuselage after plowing into the side of a house.
Ana Lucia de Lima, a resident, watched the accident and stated, “I believed it was going to fall on our yard.
“It was terrifying, but thank goodness there were no casualties among the villagers. However, it appears that the passengers on the plane were the true victims.
Another neighbor, Daniel de Lima, heard a loud explosion before noticing the jet spiraling into the sky.
“It was rotating, but it wasn’t moving forward,” he told Reuters. “Soon after, it fell out of the sky and exploded.”
No locals were injured in the disaster, but VoePass has verified that all 57 passengers and four staff members died.
In a statement, the airline said: “The company regrets to inform you that all 61 people on board flight 2283 died at the scene.”
“At this time, VoePass is prioritizing the provision of unrestricted assistance to the victims’ families and effectively collaborating with authorities to determine the causes of the accident.”
Brazilian authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident, deploying specialists in plane crashes and catastrophe victim identification to the scene.
Brigadier Marcelo Moreno, chief of the Air Force’s Aeronautical Accident Probe and Prevention Center, stated that there is no timetable for completing the probe.
“It is still very premature to say anything,” he added before clarifying: “There was no communication from the aircraft to the control authorities indicating an emergency.”
VoePass further reported that the aircraft took off ‘without any flying limitations, with all of its systems operating correctly for the mission’.
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was speaking at an event in southern Brazil when the tragedy occurred. After learning of the disaster, he requested a minute of quiet for everybody affected.
